Effervescent with the responsibility of ensuring the safety and orderliness of Bangkok’s Lumpini region, Pol Colonel Nimit Nuphonthong, the steadfast superintendent of Lumpini Police Station, recently shared on Friday, that the orchestrators of an upcoming demonstration had dutifully asked for permission from the local enforcement. This sense of responsibility reflects the respect and adherence to regulations this community holds dear.

The superintendent revealed plans to ensure the peacefulness of the assembly by stepping up security for the embassy and managing preexisting tranquillity in the areas encompassing the rally. “The participants in the demonstration are reminded to abide by the rules prescribed under the Public Assembly Act. This includes maintaining peace, ensuring an orderly congregation, refraining from possession of weapons, and not causing any public inconveniences or disturbances,” explained the superintendent.

As per his remarks, there has been no evidence unearthed by the police of any extraneous parties attempting to create unrest during the rally, raising hopes for a peaceful assembly.

By law, as stated in the Public Assembly Act invoked since 2015, all organizers of public demonstrations are obliged to notify the head of the engaged police station at least a day before the inception of the event. Any absence of such notification is treated as a criminal offense, met with a judicial penalty which could be as stern as three years of imprisonment.

The anticipation is that the demonstration will unfold between the morning hours of 10am until noon on the coming Saturday. The stage for this responsibly executed rally is the Embassy of Israel, stationed at the Ocean Tower II, nestled within Sukhumvit Soi 19.

The superintendent, Nimit, remained tight-lipped on Friday, abstaining from revealing details about the persons leading the protest. Earlier notifications in the media reported that a congregation of Muslim residents from southern Thailand intended to assemble at the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok, with the admirable objective of submitting an open letter that advocates for peace between Israel and Palestine.

Baitad Samansatitkhun, a Muslim inhabitant from Phatthalung province, disclosed that the demonstrators would congregate outside the Israeli embassy and extend an olive branch, appealing for peace and de-escalation of violence.

Earlier in the week, thousands of individuals across the Arab and Muslim world banded together to rallies, protesting against the depiction in certain media reports which suggested Israel was to blame for the unfortunate fatalities following a strike on a Gaza hospital. The heated exchange between Israel and the Palestinian militants resulted in a blame-game for this hospital strike.

The Israeli military argued its innocence, asserting that it held “evidence” to exhibit the accountability of Hamas warriors. The on-going conflict, inflamed after the Israeli military instigated air strikes as a response to a surprise attack by Hamas militants early October has resulted in a tragic loss of lives left more than 3,000 people in Gaza, and at least 1,400 in Israel.
