In the northern province of Chiang Mai, a dismal event reverberated through the peaceful expanse of Doi Saket district on Monday, shaking the very foundation of a fireworks factory and injuring eight unsuspecting individuals. As a result, the governing authorities of Chiang Mai, in a bid to prevent any repetition of such an unfortunate incident, have swiftly ordered a comprehensive inspection of all the firework factories inhabiting the area.
The provincial governor of Chiang Mai, Nirat Pongsitthithavorn, on Tuesday, pointed fingers toward a short circuit as the initial culprit responsible for instigating the fireworks explosion at the heart of San Thungmai village within the tranquil confines of tambon San Pu Loei. The incident erupted just after noon on Monday, swallowing the factory whole and extending the damages to more than 30 abodes in the vicinity.
The victims caught in the conflagration, totaling eight in number, are presently receiving medical attention, stated the governor. The tambon municipality of San Pu Loei is currently engaged in quantifying the damages inflicted upon the affected residences and supplying essential aid wherever required.
Forensic technicians have scoured the location thoroughly, gathering evidence for a comprehensive enquiry into the incident. Governor Mr. Nirat declared that no remaining explosives or hazardous substances lay lurking in the ruins that might trigger another calamitous explosion.
Consequently, Mr. Nirat has called for rigorous inspections at all the fireworks manufacturing establishments scattered across Chiang Mai, a decisive move aimed at preempting any such destructive episodes in the future. Numerous fireworks factories are cloistered within the provincial boundaries and the immediate outskirts of the downtown territory of Chiang Mai.
The results emerging from preliminary investigations indicated that the fireworks factory, at the heart of the explosion, possessed valid operational licenses for nearly two decades. Intrigually, it wasn’t the first fireworks-related accident to occur within the premises of the factory.
The municipal authorities will weigh in on the decision of renewing the factory’s operating permit, with a sharper eye towards minimizing risks of similar adverse events, and most importantly, safeguarding the wellbeing of the resident communities. The local government has launched a dedicated relief center to assist the residents affected by the explosion, a count that stands close to fifty. In the meantime, the location of the explosion has been securely sealed off to allow for unhampered investigation.
