Located in the heart of the vibrant Samut Prakan province, Suvarnabhumi airport bears the anticipative news of the successful completion of the third and conclusive full-scale trials for SAT-1, its latest satellite terminal. The sneak peek into the state-of-the-art terminal took place in the late evening of Thursday, setting the stage for the much-anticipated soft launch pencilled for September 28th.
Director of Suvarnabhumi airport, Kittipong Kittikachorn, spoke on Friday, shedding light on the objective of the final trial operation. The test was specifically focused on streamlining the outbound passenger process during the late hours, spanning from 8 pm till the stroke of midnight. The goal was to confirm the seamless functionality of the different support systems required for nighttime operations in contrast to the daytime. This includes effective lighting across all points of service to ensure travelers’ ease and comfort.
Kittipong highlighted the unwavering support extended by Thai Vietjet, which generously contributed their aircraft, professional crew members, fundamental ground service equipment, and diligent staffers for the sake of the trial operation. Similarly, this mission was heartily backed by the immigration police, customs officials, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, and last but not least, the proactive team at Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services Plc.
Post the successful execution of all three trial operations, the airport is all set to implement valuable advice and feedback from all parties involved with the aim of refining its overall operations. The outcome will be a reliable and efficient terminal, all prepared for its soft opening, fast-approaching on the 28th of September.
The SAT-1 terminal, an architectural marvel spread across a sprawling 216,000 square meters, boasts 28 dedicated aircraft parking bays. This hi-tech development is armed with groundbreaking technology that aspires to streamline the boarding process, catering effectively to the airport’s ambitious expansion plans.
With all eyes on this grand undertaking, the official inauguration of this modernistic terminal at Suvarnabhumi is likely to take place at the dawn of 2027.
The airport is all set to employ more staff as a result of the visa-free scheme that’s been put into effect. In doing so, the airport aims at increasing efficiency and boosting traveler satisfaction to new heights.
