In an inspiring hat-trick, Huawei has bagged this accolade for three consecutive years at the TMA Excellence Awards 2024 gala, hosted on November 21 at The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok. This year’s honor in the ‘Innovation Excellence’ category shines a spotlight on Huawei’s relentless pursuit of innovation, outstanding performance, and dedication to sustainable growth in Thailand. The accolade was bestowed by the Thailand Management Association (TMA) and the Sasin School of Management at Chulalongkorn University, in a ceremony graced by Privy Councilor Chirayu Isarangkun na Ayuthaya and held before the revered image of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Radiating pride, Mr. David Li, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technologies (Thailand), accepted the royal award amid a gathering of illustrious attendees.

This accolade not only marks Huawei Thailand’s third victory in a row but also underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to spearheading excellence in innovation, bolstering infrastructure, and nurturing a digital talent ecosystem. Such endeavors have catapulted Thailand into the limelight as a frontrunner in digital hubs within ASEAN, fueling economic advancement and technological breakthroughs. Adding another feather to its cap, Huawei also bagged the Distinguished Award for Product/Service Excellence alongside the coveted Royal Trophy of Innovation Excellence.

Privy Councilor Chirayu Isarangkun na Ayuthaya highlighted the pressing need for adaptability in today’s swiftly changing landscape. He remarked, “In the face of today’s rapid technological strides, we are also confronted with escalating climate change challenges. These issues, prominent in Thailand and globally, urge us to adapt and transform promptly, enabling us to handle emergencies—economic, political, or environmental—that will affect our futures.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, Mr. Nithi Patarachoke, Chairman of TMA, accentuated the resilience required in navigating contemporary trials. He said, “TMA pledges to empower Thailand’s business landscape to evolve with resilience and steadfastness, fostering sustainable economic growth amid today’s formidable challenges. From trade wars and geopolitical discord to economic obstacles and intense global competition, the key to triumph lies in fortifying strengths, pursuing excellence, and emerging as truly exemplary entities.”

Accepting the award, Mr. David Li, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand), shared his heartfelt gratitude: “Huawei Thailand is profoundly honored to receive the TMA Excellence Award for the third year running. This recognition amplifies our commitment to technological innovation and motivates us to further empower a digital, intelligent, and ecologically friendly Thailand. Over the past quarter-century in Thailand, Huawei has steadfastly contributed to the nation’s growth through innovation and collaboration.”

With strategic alliances, Huawei has deployed ASEAN’s leading 5G network, propelling AI-driven connectivity across bustling hubs like BTS stations and shopping centers, and championing community initiatives such as the ‘One Tambon, One Product’ project. Furthermore, Huawei has established three cutting-edge data centers in Thailand, ensuring secure and high-performance localized services. By forging partnerships across banking and retail sectors, Huawei Cloud has radically enhanced operational efficacy and cost management.

Recognizing the pivotal role of talent in driving innovation, Huawei has nurtured nearly 100,000 digital talents in Thailand over the past five years, laying a solid groundwork for the nation’s digital trajectory. As Huawei looks to the future, it pledges to push the envelope of a digital, intelligent, and green Thailand through relentless innovation and strategic collaboration, cementing the country’s status as a regional juggernaut in digital transformation.

Huawei’s consistent wins at the Thailand Innovation Excellence Awards show their great strides in technology. But isn’t it ironic that a company from China, where digital limits are stringent, is boosting digital freedom abroad?

    • Sarah M November 26, 2024

That’s an interesting point! Maybe they want to show the world that they can lead in digital innovation despite the restrictions at home.

      • TechGuru November 26, 2024

True, but I also think it’s a strategic move to expand their influence in key markets. They know where to flex their muscles!

    • DigitalDave November 26, 2024

It’s also about economics. Expanding in Thailand and ASEAN strengthens their economic power and influence globally.

Great for Huawei, but what’s the environmental cost of all this digital expansion? Are they really as green-friendly as they claim?

    • GreenTechGal November 26, 2024

Valid concern! They say they’re eco-friendly, but building data centers consumes a lot of energy. They should disclose their carbon footprint.

    • EcoWarrior123 November 26, 2024

Exactly. Transparency is key, especially when it comes to sustainability claims. I’d like to see more data.

    • Richard L November 26, 2024

Many tech companies use renewable energy offsets. If Huawei does that, then it might be sustainable amidst expansion.

This is a smart move by Thailand to leverage Huawei’s tech prowess for rapid digital advancement.

Huawei’s influence in Thailand is a bit concerning. Foreign tech dominance can be a double-edged sword.

    • Wanda November 26, 2024

I agree. It’s important for Thailand to maintain sovereignty over its tech infrastructure.

    • JohnDoe November 26, 2024

Yes, especially with sensitive data. Cybersecurity should be a priority to avoid dependence on external entities.

While innovation is great, doesn’t it feel like Huawei is monopolizing the tech sector in Thailand?

    • SavvySue November 26, 2024

I feel that too. It would be wise to encourage home-grown startups to preserve diversity in the market.

    • GadgetGuy November 26, 2024

Absolutely, and a more competitive environment could spur even greater innovation!

  7. Hannah November 26, 2024

Interesting that they won under innovation when people in the US are wary of Huawei for security reasons. Different priorities, I guess.

    • GlobalCitizen November 26, 2024

Security vs. innovation is always a tricky balance. But every region has its own strategic interests.

    • Hannah November 26, 2024

True, and each country needs to weigh the risks and benefits according to their own context.

Winning three times in a row is impressive. What’s their secret? Other companies could learn a thing or two.

  9. TechieTom November 26, 2024

It seems like Huawei is doing more for Thailand’s digital infrastructure than the Thai government itself!

    • Sam A November 26, 2024

Some governments rely heavily on private companies for development. Not ideal, but practical sometimes.

    • TechieTom November 26, 2024

Yeah, but there should be a balanced partnership to avoid any lopsided dependencies.

I wonder how this acknowledgment affects Huawei’s operations elsewhere. Will they push further into other Southeast Asian countries?

  11. Mandy C November 26, 2024

Hmm, I’m more interested in how this will affect local tech companies in Thailand. Can they compete?

It’s a big deal that these awards are held in presence of royalty! Shows how serious Thailand is about tech!

Of course, all this innovation is great, but does it translate to tangible economic benefits for everyday Thai citizens?
