According to Choengron, immigration authorities are able to process up to 7,000 travelers each hour without compromising national security. Agents do not spend more than 45 seconds analyzing the information on each new arrival’s passport, visa, biometric information, and presence on any blacklists. He warned that immigration authorities must be on the alert for foreign criminals posing as tourists, especially given that the APEC 2022 Summit will be held in Bangkok the following week. According to the officer, it is usual for international fugitives who illegally enter Thailand to overstay their visa, engage in illicit business enterprises, and commit crimes while in the country. To ensure the safety of the world leaders attending the APEC meeting on November 18-19, immigration officials have been instructed to go above and beyond their customary duty to prevent criminals from crossing the border. Airports of Thailand (AOT) said that they are in negotiations with Grab over the potential use of Grab’s services to alleviate taxi shortages at Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport.
Due to the large number of flights that landed yesterday afternoon at Suvarnabhumi Airport, there was a line at immigration (an average of 20–25 per hour). According to Choengron, immigration services processed nearly 3,000 people each hour during that time period. Since the 21st of November, there have been 6,748,764 international tourist arrivals at Suvarnabhumi Airport. On November 10, 49,000 international travelers arrived at Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thailand’s tourism industry appears to be making a recovery despite the fact that visitor arrivals have not yet recovered to pre-pandemic levels, despite the fact that immigration has published optimistic data. The Commander of the Immigration Bureau, Pol. Maj. Gen. Choengron Rimphadee, has confirmed that the picture of a massive line at immigration that was circulated on social media yesterday, November 10, 2022, is true and was taken the day before. Yesterday, just 8,026 Thai nationals landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport out of a total of 57,453 passengers; the remaining 49,423 passengers were international travelers. The countries with the most international tourists were India, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States of America, in that order. The on-duty officer believes that Thailand’s decision to expand the maximum number of days a tourist can stay from 30 to 45 for most countries and from 15 to 30 for some nations is the key reason for the rise in the number of tourists from other nations.
In just one day, Thailand is visited by 50,000 people from other countries
