MBK Center recently pulled off a heartwarming spectacle for the 15th time with its celebrated “One Person Gives, Many Receive” donation event, in partnership with the National Blood Centre of the Thai Red Cross Society. The bustling 4th floor, Zone D, became a hub of altruism as MBK employees, shop owners, and even shoppers converged with one mission in mind – giving. The overwhelming sense of community spirit thrived as a soaring total of 144 blood units were collected, alongside 58 gracious individuals committing to donate their eyes, organs, and bodies. This remarkable participation reflects how deeply ingrained the commitment to making a difference is within this community-focused initiative held every quarter.

Miss Sattakamol Worakul, Senior Director of Corporate Communications at Intelligent Creative and Marketing Co., Ltd., was the embodiment of the community’s ethos. Representing MBK Center’s management team, she warmly welcomed the doctors, nurses, and staff from the National Blood Centre and Thai Red Cross Organ Donation Centre. Not only did she oversee the proceedings, but she also rolled up her sleeves to donate blood herself. With palpable passion, she expressed, “MBK Center stands devoted to nurturing a society that cares and uplifts the quality of life for our Thai community. Under the glowing banner of MBK CARE, we organize the “One Person Gives, Many Receive” donation events four times annually with the esteemed Thai Red Cross. I invite everyone to partake in this noble act of giving life through blood, organ, and eye donations. Our next event awaits on Thursday, December 20, 2024, and we would be thrilled to have you.”

Arriving with a personal mission, Miss Sahubphak Chokvijitkul, Managing Director of MBK Center, shared her meaningful contribution, “Today, I took a moment to donate organs and eyes through the Thai Red Cross Organ Donation Centre. I’ve held this intention a long time but hadn’t found the time to visit the Thai Red Cross Society. Fortunately, MBK Center’s event presented the perfect opportunity. Beyond aiding medical practice for students, organ donations hold the power to save lives even after one’s passing. In parallel, blood donations bring essential support too, attracting vivid interest among our patrons. Here, our shop owners might not always find moments to visit the Thai Red Cross Society, so this event is a blessing of convenience for tenants and guests alike.”

Amongst the crowd, Mr. Veerawit, a spry 68-year-old, quipped, “I had popped by to scout new mobile phones when I stumbled upon the organ and eye donation effort by the Thai Red Cross Society. Curious, I inquired, and soon joined in. Over three decades ago, I had pledged my body to Phramongkutklao Hospital, and learning I could also offer my organs and eyes sparked joy in me. As a teacher, I vowed to teach both in life and through my legacy, ensuring my body serves a purpose even posthumously. I’ve donated blood 70 times now—initially, I’d give four times a year, but past 65, I’m down to two. I shall persist regardless. The sheer joy blood donation brings is beyond measure, knowing each donation can elicit joy for up to three souls.”

Meanwhile, Miss Tipsukon Kanponpai, a dedicated volunteer at MBK, chimed in, “This marks my 40th chapter of blood donation. Most occur at the Thai Red Cross Society and MBK Center. It’s phenomenal—easy to tap into and such a rewarding cycle where one act touches many lives. My father’s dedication to donating inspired me. Dreaming forward, it might be fantastic if MBK Center had a dedicated blood donation room—ensuring patrons needn’t wait to contribute instantly.”

This year, etched in solidarity, MBK Center has united with businesses spanning the Pathumwan and Ratchaprasong locales in volunteer programs, channeling blood donations to the National Blood Centre of the Thai Red Cross Society as an ode to His Majesty the King, honoring his majestic 72nd birthday. The date for the next exhilarating blood donation event at MBK Center is inked for Thursday, December 26, 2024, set against the backdrop of the 4th floor, Zone D.

This is fantastic! MBK Center is doing an amazing job bringing people together for a cause that’s bigger than all of us. 144 blood units and all those organ donations are impressive!

    • Lisa C October 7, 2024

Absolutely agree! It’s heartwarming to see such commitment from the community and the organizers. But I have to wonder, is there really a way to keep up donating like this every quarter?

      • JohnDoe123 October 7, 2024

Good point, Lisa. Sustainability is key. Let’s hope the enthusiasm doesn’t dwindle over time!

    • ConsciousCarl October 7, 2024

While this event is indeed commendable, shouldn’t we worry about the ethical implications of encouraging organ donations like this? Some might feel pressured.

      • Lisa C October 7, 2024

I hear you, Carl. The pressure to donate, especially organs, should be carefully managed. It must always come from a place of informed choice.

  2. Anna Belle October 7, 2024

I love how the Senior Director got involved hands-on. Leading by example is invaluable. More CEOs should do the same!

  3. Kevin October 7, 2024

While blood donations are critical, making it a spectacle feels off. I worry it might detract from the real purpose—saving lives!

    • Grower134 October 7, 2024

Kevin, I think events like these raise awareness and that can’t be bad, right? If it gets more people to donate and support the cause, why not?

    • Kevin October 7, 2024

True, public engagement is crucial. But we need to maintain the integrity and seriousness of the cause above all.

  4. Diana B October 7, 2024

Three cheers to Miss Tipsukon! 40 blood donations is impressive, shows commitment. She’s totally right though, MBK should have a permanent donation room!

    • EngineerTom October 7, 2024

Yes, Diana. A permanent facility could streamline the process and make it more convenient for repeat donors. Great suggestion!

  5. EnviroNate October 7, 2024

All this sounds great, but I hope MBK Center is equally committed to environmental sustainability. Events like these should incorporate green practices.

  6. TechieTed October 7, 2024

It would be interesting if MBK Center used some innovative technology to enhance these events. Maybe an app to schedule and track donations?

  7. Veera64 October 7, 2024

As someone from the older generation, I’m thrilled to see such initiatives. But do they engage the youth enough? They are the future donors.

  8. Larry D October 7, 2024

Kind of funny how shopping malls become the hub for health initiatives. But if it works, it works! What do you guys think about that?

    • ShopaholicSue October 7, 2024

Larry, it’s convenient for someone like me who shops regularly at MBK. It’s a clever way to involve the community through a daily activity.

  9. Rachel Z October 7, 2024

I wonder if local businesses involved get more customer engagement or it’s purely altruistic? Either way, more power to the unity in Pathumwan!

  10. Gary J October 7, 2024

I commend Mr. Veerawit’s perspective. Educating the young about donation importance is paramount. Both in life and death, giving continues.

  11. BrightSpark October 7, 2024

I’ve never donated blood before. Reading this sort of inspires me to give it a try. Any tips from experienced donors?

    • ActiveAmy October 7, 2024

Just make sure you’re well-hydrated and have a hearty meal before you go, BrightSpark! The comfort and safety during the process is usually excellent.

    • JohnDoe123 October 7, 2024

Start slow, BrightSpark. Once you do it, the fear tends to disappear, replaced by the satisfaction of contributing to life.

  12. CulturalCritic October 7, 2024

We should be cautious about normalizing these ‘quick-fix’ charity events. Real and lasting societal change demands more nuanced, systemic efforts.
