Mysterious Monk’s Motorcycle Antics: A Curious Tale from Nakhon Ratchasima

In an incredibly bizarre twist of events, a video of a man dressed in monk robes, hauling a motorcycle with a sidecar in tow, has stirred the online community, after it found its way onto Facebook. This unusual episode unfolded on the busy Mittraphap Road, near the scenic backdrop of Khao Yai Thiang, nestled in Si Khio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, on the evening of June 6. The man, who seemed all too familiar with the road and perhaps a bit too friendly with his libations, was seen crawling on all fours in a puzzling yet oddly mesmerizing scene.

As reports trickled in, it was unveiled that the man had been a temporary resident of Phu Pha Tham Monastery, located in the Khlong Phai subdistrict. For the past few days, he had been a peculiar visitor at the monastery, brought there by relatives, possibly in hopes of seeking some solace or perhaps a much-needed intervention. Before his current encampment, he was said to have resided near another temple in the vicinity of Khao Yai. However, the reasons for his change in lodgings remain as enigmatic as the man himself. Descriptions from the monastery paints him as a loner, often lost in his world, conversing with the trees in the surrounding forest more than with people.

The curious incident came to light as he allegedly took the monastery’s two-wheeler for a joyride – without so much as a nod to the permission forms. The monk in charge was away on personal business, blissfully unaware of the vehicular misadventure until the video surfaced on TikTok, courtesy of user @sarawut9.9.9. The monk returned to the monastery to find himself in a spectacle of disbelief and concern over the man’s erratic behavior. He speculated that the visitor was struggling with mental health challenges.

Meanwhile, Khlong Phai Police Station officers were alerted by the local residents, who were understandably baffled by the unusual antics unfolding before them. They approached the man, seeking to clarify his identity through his monk identification card. But alas, no form of identification could be provided. The situation took an unexpected turn when they attempted to defrock him. Instead of complying, he boldly donned civilian clothes of his own accord, then cheekily asked the police for money. With a small gesture – 40 baht to be precise – he left the officers as puzzled as they were amused, making a hasty retreat into the unknown. The once-roaring motorcycle, perhaps as confused as its temporary rider, was abandoned on the roadside, a silent testament to the day’s shenanigans, awaiting retrieval by the monastery.

In a curious twist, residents in Nakhon Pathom also raised red flags about a man allegedly masquerading as a monk, collecting donations during the festivities of Songkran. It seems faux-monk escapades may just be this season’s unconventional headline grabber.

Stay tuned as we unravel more threads from Thailand’s tapestry of tales, where life is anything but ordinary and always tinged with the unexpected.

This story is absolutely wild! I can’t believe someone would just take a motorcycle like that without permission.

    • Derek June 8, 2025

Agreed, Anna. But can we really believe everything we see on social media? Maybe it was staged for attention.

      • Anna R. June 8, 2025

Staged or not, it’s a captivating story. Reality or performance, it still raises interesting questions about mental health and societal expectations.

      • Derek June 8, 2025

True. It’s easy to pass judgment, but his actions might speak to deeper issues.

    • Tina_L June 8, 2025

I think it’s funny! But also a bit sad if he genuinely needed help.

  2. James June 8, 2025

Sounds like something out of a movie. Can you imagine seeing a monk riding off with a motorcycle? Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction.

    • Chris P. June 8, 2025

Indeed, but what concerns me is the breach of trust. Monks are supposed to be role models.

    • James June 8, 2025

Fair point, but it turns out he wasn’t really a monk, right? Just a guy in robe.

    • Chris P. June 8, 2025

True, though it makes you wonder how easy it is to impersonate someone in a position of trust these days.

  3. Sophia W June 8, 2025

I’ve traveled through Nakhon Ratchasima, beautiful place, but you never hear such stories in travel guides!

  4. Frankie99 June 8, 2025

This guy is a hero! Standing up to the authorities in his own quirky way. Gutsy move.

    • Larry D June 8, 2025

Hero is a strong word, Frankie. He was causing disturbance, not leading a revolution.

      • Frankie99 June 8, 2025

Fair enough, I guess. But you have to admit, asking the police for money after all that is kind of epic.

      • Larry D June 8, 2025

That was pretty bold, I’ll give him that.

  5. Olivia_Rose June 8, 2025

I am curious about what actually happened after all this. Did the monastery take any action?

  6. Einstein2000 June 8, 2025

I wonder why no one has mentioned the mental health angle. Surely, this man needed some support rather than amusement at his antics.

    • User123 June 8, 2025

Good point, Einstein. These incidents often speak louder about society’s failure to address mental health than about personal failures.

  7. Jenna Lee June 8, 2025

A man talking to trees isn’t as peculiar as it sounds. Maybe he just finds peace in nature – or maybe he’s just eccentric.

  8. Dave_T June 8, 2025

Only in Thailand! You never know what you’re gonna get, one day it’s elephants on the road, next a rogue monk!

    • CynthiaD June 8, 2025

Haha, very true. The unexpected is just a regular part of life there, which is both exciting and daunting at times.

    • Dave_T June 8, 2025

Absolutely Cynthia, that’s what makes it a great adventure.

  9. Lucy P June 8, 2025

This is turning into a meme-worthy material! Someone explore this on TikTok more.

  10. TommyG June 8, 2025

How did no one stop him earlier? Aren’t there authorities checking these things in monasteries?

    • Amelia June 8, 2025

TommyG, I think it happened so unexpectedly. Plus, monks aren’t typically under constant supervision.

  11. Zara June 8, 2025

It’s sad how serious issues can become Internet fodder. It’s entertaining until it’s close to home.

    • Morgan L June 8, 2025

Couldn’t agree more, Zara. What if there’s a lesson to be learned about compassion and understanding?

    • Zara June 8, 2025

Exactly, there’s often more beneath the surface of every viral story.

  12. Ryan81 June 8, 2025

Crazy as it seems, what if this guy just wanted to break free from societal norms and live as he chooses?

  13. Sam_B June 8, 2025

With all the chaos, who retrieved the motorbike? Was it just left there in the end?

    • Mike H June 8, 2025

I would guess the monks did. Would be interesting to know the follow-up.
