Phuket Thrills: Ekkaudom Phantha’s Daring Escape & Methamphetamine Bust

Yesterday at the Phuket City Police Station, amidst the otherwise ordinary humdrum of routine patrol duties, a crackerjack story unfolded that could rival the most gripping of action films. It all kicked off just past 5:30 PM when officers from the Crime Suppression Division found themselves in a nail-biting chase, like something straight out of a thrilling cop show. It was January 19, and the sun was beginning to set when their attention was caught by a seemingly harmless man acting suspicious as a cat in a dog kennel, near a nondescript red booth. Clutching something in his left hand as though it were a winning lottery ticket, the man, who was later revealed to be 40-year-old Ekkaudom Phantha from Nakhon Sri Thammarat province, decided he didn’t much fancy explaining himself and made a hasty beeline for his vehicle—a passenger van gleaming with a Phuket registration.

The man was off faster than a jackrabbit, with officers whipping out their motorbikes for a high-octane pursuit through the streets of Phuket. The tension was palpable. An officer during this adrenaline-popping chase spied through the open window, the glint of Yaba pills lying cavalierly on the driver’s seat, like candy in a child’s reach. In an ill-fated attempt at making his escape, Ekkaudom fiddled frantically with the window controls, inadvertently nearly capturing Sergeant Supachai Sanamchai’s hand in it! But our quick-thinking hero wasn’t about to let that slide. Like something out of an action-packed blockbuster, Sergeant Supachai brandished his flashlight to wedge the window open, shattering it in a dramatic shower of glass. Unfortunately, the flying shards did cause him minor injuries, but what’s a few scratches for the thrill of a righteous catch?

Ultimately, Ekkaudom was reeled in and upon further inspection, the officers dug up four methamphetamine pills secreted on his person, a meager stash compared to the hubbub he caused. Adding a little more salt to an already weeping wound, a urine test sang the song of methamphetamine consistency in his system. Oh, Ekkaudom, what a fine mess you’ve made! Now he’s left to face the music for a concerto of drug-related charges and has been handed over to the investigating officer, where his not-so-great escape will unravel further amidst legal proceedings, according to the Phuket News.

Meanwhile, across the same island on what appeared to be a particularly tempestuous day for law and order, another racing heart-drama played out involving a Canadian man and a black Ford pickup truck. This character managed to lead police on a dizzying high-speed chase that left a trail more destructive than an elephant stampede through a china shop. This fracas erupted at 4:45 PM and had Patong police scrambling when they received an urgent call about ruckus outside the Patong Condo Hotel. By the time officers landed on the scene, the mysterious perpetrator had already hit the gas.

Can you believe this guy? Trying a high-speed chase with drugs on him? What was he thinking!

    • Sarah January 20, 2025

Some people just don’t think through their actions. Methamphetamine really messes with your judgment.

      • Joe January 20, 2025

Drugs should be legalized and regulated. Maybe that would prevent these senseless incidents.

    • RacerX January 20, 2025

A chase like that! Sounds thrilling! Wonder if they need stunt doubles for officers too. 😂

      • LarryD January 20, 2025

It isn’t a movie, guys. Lives are at risk in these scenarios.

  2. TheRealSteve January 20, 2025

I feel sorry for the guy having to resort to drugs. Society should offer more help.

    • Rocker122 January 20, 2025

Stop making him out to be a victim! He chose this path!

    • Claire January 20, 2025

Steve has a point. Rehab and mental health support should be more accessible.

  3. Mike January 20, 2025

The police did a remarkable job, but have you noticed the rise in drug cases lately? Why isn’t enough being done?

    • Hopeful January 20, 2025

True, it seems never-ending. Maybe it’s time for new tactics in handling drug offenses.

      • Lena January 20, 2025

I agree! Prevention is better than cure. Invest in education, not just incarceration.

  4. TravelerTom January 20, 2025

As someone visiting Phuket soon, these stories make me a bit anxious. How common are such incidents?

    • PhuketLocal55 January 20, 2025

Don’t worry, these are rare but get highlighted because they’re sensational!

      • LarryD January 20, 2025

Agreed, Phuket is generally safe for tourists. Just keep your wits about you.

  5. EcoWarrior January 20, 2025

While everyone’s excited about the chase, what about the environmental impact? All those emissions for a chase?

    • Gearhead January 20, 2025

Environmental impact? Really? This is about law enforcement, not ecology.

      • EcoWarrior January 20, 2025

Every little action counts. Lots of high-speed chases can add up to a big problem.

    • Kingfisher January 20, 2025

I think EcoWarrior has a point. Maybe there are other ways to apprehend suspects.

  6. JustCurious January 20, 2025

Wait, so how did the officer get injured? Was it necessary to break the window?

    • Grower134 January 20, 2025

You can’t predict how these things go down. Split-second decisions, you know?

      • JustCurious January 20, 2025

Still, there should be a safer protocol for such situations.

  7. Rach January 20, 2025

Sounds like an action movie gone wrong! But really, it’s a reflection of deeper societal issues.

  8. Eduardo January 20, 2025

When will people learn? Drugs only create more problems and put innocent lives at risk.

  9. HappyFeet January 20, 2025

Kudos to the officers, but let’s also think about how we can help addicts before it comes to this.

  10. Gillybean January 20, 2025

Chases like these just stress me out. Hope the officers stay safe on the job.
