Welcome to the latest slice of life from the Thai royal sphere, where political adviser Chompoonute “Cherie” Nakornthap recently took to Facebook with exciting news: Vacharaesorn, the King’s son, embarked on a significant rite of passage – obtaining his very first Thai identification card. Furthermore, he’s put in a request for his passport. Now, while Chompoonute coyly omitted the where and whens, the air of mystery only adds to the intrigue.
In her post, which graced our feeds last Friday, she included a snapshot that oozes camaraderie, featuring herself alongside the King’s progeny in a locale we can only guess is teeming with bureaucratic charm. Yet another image captured a moment of towering importance, with Vacharaesorn’s stature logged by an engaged state official, the location being our little secret.
We were also treated to a bit of digital wizardry as a video clip showcased Vacharaesorn getting his fingerprints digitalized, all part of the modern-day spellcasting that is securing a new passport.
Now, if you haven’t been privy to the whispers, Vacharaesorn, affectionately dubbed “Than On” by the locals, has been more jet-setter than homebody over the past 27 years, with the United States serving as his residence of choice.
Yet, on December 4th, he fluttered back to his homeland—his second such visit this year, purely to partake in the heartwarming festivities of Thailand’s Father’s Day on December 5th. You might recall whispers of his summer jaunt, where he and his sprightly younger brother Chakriwat, lovingly referred to as “Than Ong”, graced the country with their presence.
This jaunt was not all pomp and ceremony. Vacharaesorn was spotted indulging in the culinary delights at Jay Fai’s, the humble streetside gem that boasts not one, but two Michelin stars to its name.
Vacharaesorn, a man of eclectic interests, detailed his jaunts around the Thai terrain in his Facebook chronicles, paying visits to numerous attractions just a stone’s throw from Bangkok. He lent his support to mangrove reforestation in Samut Songkram, spent time at Sarnelli House in Chachoengsao, inspired young minds at a school in Ang Thong, and even journeyed to the northeastern province of Nakhon Phanom. It’s clear, Vacharaesorn is not only a man of royal blood but also one of the people.
And who, you might ask, is the bearer of such news? None other than Chompoonute, a veritable political sage with an illustrious track record as a policy adviser to the minister of social development and human security. Beyond that, she’s a defender of rights, serving with verve as the secretary of the Democrat Party’s Committee on LGBT and Human Rights.
So, there you have it folks—an update worthy of the royal history books, peppered with a dash of mystery, a sprinkle of celeb spotting, and a whole lot of Thai pride.
