Invest Selangor Berhad has set the stage for an extraordinary business extravaganza by launching the much-anticipated Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2024 on June 25 at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya. Scheduled to transform the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre into a buzzing hub of economic activity, this annual event kicks off in July, championed by the Selangor State Government and meticulously orchestrated by Invest Selangor Berhad. It has steadily grown into one of the region’s premier marketplaces and networking arenas for exhibitors, investors, and industry heavyweights across Southeast Asia.

SIBS 2024 promises a two-series spectacle:

Series One: 25 – 27 July 2024

The first series is set to illuminate key investment themes through two marquee events:

  • Selangor ASEAN Business Conference (SABC): This regional forum is a crucible for tackling investment challenges and unearthing opportunities within Southeast Asia. Featuring lauded speakers such as YAB Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor and high-profile representatives from ASEAN business chambers, including an eminent speaker from Timor-Leste, the SABC promises to be a cornerstone event.
  • Selangor Investment and Industrial Park Expo (SPARK): A showcase of titan players within the industrial park ecosystem across ASEAN, SPARK will boast contributions from various state governments and key industry stakeholders, making it a must-attend expo for investment insiders.

Series Two: 16 – 19 October 2024

The second series dives into sector-specific extravaganzas with three pivotal events:

  • Selangor International Expo (Food & Beverages): This global F&B expo, featuring an eclectic mix of local and international exhibitors, will spotlight key forums and vital discussions on Food Security. Co-located within SIE F&B will be the Selangor International Halal Convention (SELHAC), zeroing in on halal certification, halal logistics, and digital innovation within the booming halal industry.
  • Selangor Life Sciences Convention (SLC): A comprehensive conference and expo on the dynamic Life Sciences sector. Featuring three industry-specific forums—the Selangor Life Sciences Synergy, Medical Device Authority Industry Updates, and the Selangor Korea Sustainable Futures Seminar—the SLC is poised to be an intellectual feast.
  • Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC): An exhibition focused on the marvels of AI innovation in mobility, healthcare, and education. SDEC will also spotlight Selangor’s latest initiative, the Malaysia Semiconductor Accelerator and IC Design Park, sure to make waves in the tech industry.

YB Ng Sze Han, Selangor’s Exco for Investment, Trade, and Mobility, has called upon the business community to fully engage in SIBS 2024, underscoring its critical role in fostering growth within Malaysia and ASEAN. With expectations of drawing over 60,000 visitors from 80 countries and facilitating transactions worth an estimated RM7 billion, the summit is set to be a monumental affair.

Echoing this sentiment, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, heralded the magnitude and importance of SIBS 2024. With a lineup of five major expos and conferences across two series, this edition is brimming with potential and set to be the grandest one yet.

For those eager to be part of this landmark event, additional information can be found on the official Selangor Summit website. Be there to experience, engage, and elevate your business horizons!

This summit sounds like a big deal for Southeast Asia, but I wonder if it really benefits the local small businesses.

    • Anita June 26, 2024

John, that’s a valid concern. While these events often focus on larger entities, there can be significant trickle-down effects for smaller businesses as well.

      • John Smith June 26, 2024

True, but I still worry that the focus is too much on big corporate interests rather than genuinely helping small entrepreneurs.

      • seasia_enthusiast June 26, 2024

The exposure and networking opportunities could be massive for any local business owner who manages to get in.

I can’t believe the amount of money this summit is expected to generate. RM7 billion is no joke!

    • TechGuru91 June 26, 2024

Indeed, Maya. But beyond the money, think of the technological advancements and collaborations that will be born from this summit.

    • Farah June 26, 2024

But TechGuru, it’s easy to get lost in the numbers. We should also consider the environmental and social impacts of such mega-events.

    • Maya T. June 26, 2024

Fair point, Farah. Hopefully, the organizers have sustainability plans in place.

  3. Liam June 26, 2024

Does anyone know if regular folks can attend, or is this strictly a corporate gig?

    • InvestorKit June 26, 2024

Liam, these summits usually have sections that are open to the public, though many of the financing and high-level discussions are closed off.

    • Innovator13 June 26, 2024

You might get in as a student or startup founder. They sometimes have special tickets for those groups.

  4. Eleanor Watts June 26, 2024

With the focus on AI and digital economy, does Selangor have the infrastructure to support this ambitious agenda?

Good question, Eleanor. Selangor has been ramping up its tech infrastructure, but there’s always room for improvement.

    • TechSavvyLee June 26, 2024

If they pull off that Semiconductor Accelerator and IC Design Park project, they’ll definitely be in a stronger position.

    • Eleanor Watts June 26, 2024

Agreed, but the execution will be key. We’ve seen many projects like this falter.

But how is the pandemic continuing to shape these events? Are there virtual components?

I’ve read that many international summits now have hybrid models. It would make sense for them to do the same.
