Move Forward Party (MFP) leader Pita Limjaroenrat recently held a press conference and shed light on the ongoing developments of his party, particularly on the matter of the House Speaker post. He emphasized that the Move Forward Party and Pheu Thai Party will exclusively address this issue. “Regarding the House Speaker, the Pheu Thai Party and Move Forward Party will engage in discussions, with the shared understanding that it will not impede the formation of the government,” Mr Pita stated.

The remarks followed a meeting among seven coalition partners to discuss ministry quotas at the Prachachart Party meeting room. Although the House Speaker issue was scheduled, it was not discussed during the gathering. Mr Pita explained that the primary focus of the coalition partners is to ensure that they are well-prepared to govern the country and act in the best interests of the people.

As the Election Commission (EC) has officially announced the election results, the people of Thailand anticipate a swift certification of the members of parliament to promptly form a new government. “The people hope the EC will promptly certify the members of parliament so that a new government can be formed to administer and deliver the maximum benefits to the people as soon as possible,” Mr Pita expressed.

Pheu Thai leader Cholnan Srikaew also mentioned that the House Speaker role issue was not addressed in the coalition partners meeting since it is a specific dialogue between the MFP and Pheu Thai. In regard to the ministry quotas, Dr Cholnan stated that the MFP secretary-general has initially sent a framework of the new government based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Subsequently, the parties will engage in discussions to determine suitable individuals to oversee each ministry.

Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves, the leader of the Seri Ruam Thai Party, which is part of the MFP-led coalition bloc, opined that the House Speaker role should be given to an experienced politician irrespective of age. He believed that Dr Cholnan would be the best candidate for the position owing to his vast experience and capabilities in politics.

Phawadee Tantisirin, adviser to the Northeast Red Shirt coordinating network, also met with key red-shirt members in Khon Kaen and nearby provinces to discuss issues related to the coalition. She revealed that the members agreed on Dr Cholnan’s suitability for the House Speaker role, citing his maturity and political experience as strengths.
