This is the world in which the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) operates, and it’s been making waves with its remarkable feats in digital defense. On an illustrious afternoon in Laksi District, Bangkok, the Asawin Grand Convention Hotel turned into a grand stage of recognition as the PWA basked in the glow of accolades from the prestigious “Prime Minister Awards: Thailand Cybersecurity Excellence Awards 2023”.
The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) declared PWA a beacon of cybersecurity, bestowing upon it a plaque of cooperation and a coveted certificate for being an exceptionally fortified information infrastructure agency. If the walls of the Asawin Grand Convention Hotel could talk, they’d tell the tale of PWA’s Deputy Governor, Mr. Chakapong Kamchan, stepping up to receive the accolades with the grace and poise of a seasoned cyber guardian.
Mr. Kamchan, who’s also warming the seat as the Acting Governor of PWA, couldn’t help but exude pride as he recounted the victory. “To be hailed as the crème de la crème for our Best Cybersecurity Performance in the realms of Cooperation and Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) is a testament to our unwavering commitment to digital excellence,” he said. The Prime Minister Awards didn’t just fall out of the sky—they’re the result of a robust cybersecurity framework honed by the Cyber Security Act of 2019 and the relentless pursuit of international standards.
It was not a battle fought alone, as 181 valiant candidates threw their hats into the ring, hoping to be among the chosen. Out of this elite group, just 69 emerged with awards, and an additional 18 left with certificates of honor. PWA’s moment in the spotlight was among the 87 instances of excellence that echoed throughout the grand hall, each an ode to cybersecurity brilliance.
Assistant Governor Ms. Chommanat Phonsomphon provided insights into the keys to PWA’s success. “Cyber threats lurk in the shadows, ever-evolving and ready to strike. Nevertheless, PWA stands firm, rallying its forces to deploy effective defense strategies,” she stated. At PWA, cooperation isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a fusion of policies, standards, and alliances, fortified both within and beyond the organization’s walls, resulting in a cybersecurity bulwark that’s as robust as it is dynamic.
