KANCHANABURI: In a tragic turn of events, a local restauranteur and his girlfriend met a devastating end when their pickup truck crashed violently into a roadside power pole. The collision was so intense that the vehicle’s engine was forcibly ejected, landing meters away, while the truck itself became gruesomely enmeshed around the pole.
The accident took place on Highway 324 (Kanchanaburi-Uthong), specifically in Ban Huai Talung village of tambon Nong Khao in the Tha Muang district, just past midnight at 12:23 am on Sunday.
Upon arriving at the site, police were met with the sight of a severely mangled silver Isuzu D-Max, partially entwined with a high-power pole. Adding to the devastation, the truck’s engine had been catapulted through the bonnet, resting a striking 20 meters away from the wreck—in a haunting illustration of the crash’s ferocity.
The vehicle was registered in this picturesque western province, now marred by the tragedy. Serried markings on the road nearby betrayed the futile last-minute braking efforts that stretched on for about 80 meters, ending in the catastrophic wreck that claimed the lives of the two occupants instantly.
The victims were identified as 28-year-old Sitthipong Boonkerd, the proud owner of the popular local eatery, Krua Ban Ban, situated in tambon Nong Khao, and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Arisa Nakpinpat. Both hailed from the Tha Muang district, their destinies forever intertwined both in life and in their untimely demise.
According to an eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Krishnai, the pickup truck had overtaken his motorcycle with startling speed. The vehicle then veered off the road at a slight bend and smashed into the pole, leaving behind a scene that looked like it belonged in a high-octane action film rather than this tranquil province.
The initial police investigation suggests that the driver, likely overwhelmed by the vehicle’s high speed, attempted to brake upon approaching the bend but tragically lost control of the truck. This devastating accident serves as a somber reminder of the perils of speed, especially on winding roads under the cover of night.
Such a tragic accident. It’s a stark reminder of how dangerous speeding can be.
Totally agree. It’s heartbreaking to see the loss of young lives due to a moment of reckless driving.
Well, sometimes speed is necessary. People just need to learn how to handle their vehicles better.
But we can’t ignore the fact that high speeds on dangerous roads should be avoided at all costs.
Absolutely, there are limits for a reason. Better to be safe than sorry.
I can’t believe people still drive so recklessly. When I was young, we all respected the road more.
I think every generation has its share of reckless drivers, Larry. But yes, the lack of respect for road safety is concerning.
We need stricter laws and better enforcement to prevent such tragedies.
You’re right, RedCarLuna, but I feel it’s worse now with all the distractions like phones.
These types of accidents keep happening. When will we learn?
It’s unfortunate, but education on road safety and stricter penalties might help.
Education is key, but people also need to take personal responsibility for their actions.
I can’t stop thinking about their families. Such a loss.
If the road was better lit, would this have happened? Night driving is inherently risky.
Better lighting could help, but high speed on bends is always a bad idea.
We can’t blame the road. Drivers need to be more cautious, especially at night.
In some cases, harsh penalties for speeding can deter such reckless behavior.
Strongly agree, David. Fear of punishment might make drivers think twice before speeding.
Exactly, it’s about creating a mindset where safety is a priority.
What a terrifying scene to come upon. I can’t imagine the trauma for witnesses.
We need to invest in driver education programs that highlight the consequences of speeding.
This tragedy is proof that even experienced drivers can make fatal mistakes. Always drive cautiously.
Yes, and sometimes we forget that experienced doesn’t mean invincible. We’re all human after all.
And it only takes one mistake to cause a disaster like this. We really can’t be too careful.
Exactly, Anton. One moment of carelessness can change everything.
I feel like we hear about these stories all the time. Is it really that hard to slow down?
Lost control at high speed? Sounds like a reckless driver to me. No sympathy.
