In an unfolding tale of mysterious murders and international intrigue in Bangkok, the police are now hot on the heels of a Thai woman alleged to be the mastermind behind the chilling kill of a Taiwanese businessman. Pairing up with Interpol, the authorities are also in a race against time to search for an absconded suspect, hailing from Vanuatu, who has reportedly fled the country.

The narrative took its dark turn on Thursday, as a Cameroonian and a Burmese man were taken into custody. This duo, identified as Zwe Lin Pyae, a 21-year-old from Myanmar, and John Agbor, a 40-year-old from Cameroon, were then led to the Phra Khanong Criminal Court on Saturday by diligent detectives from Bang Na police station, who appealed for a 12-day detention period to continue their probe into the severe crime, opposing bail on the grounds of its gravity.

In accordance with the nation’s law, the accused can be held captive for seven 12-day periods, which sums up to a total of 84 days, before law enforcers are required to press charges or let them go. Agbor and Pyae were captured late on Thursday, in Srinakarin Road in Bangkok, as primary suspects behind the Taiwanese man’s demise in a local Bang Na district hotel.

The victim, a 48-year-old Taiwanese named Chu Chiang Shen, was discovered lifeless in a room on the sixth floor of the Niran Grand Hotel on Udomsuk Soi 17, off Sukhumvit 103 (Udomsuk) Road last Thursday. This discovery was made by hotel personnel, who decided to investigate the room following a report from the victim’s compatriot who failed to reach Shen via phone.

Delving into the matter further, Pol Maj Gen Theeradet Thamsuthee from the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) explained that Shen was preyed upon for his wealth, acting upon a tip from the Thai woman who initiated the assault, while claiming that Shen was affluent. In a bid to capture the Thai woman, incriminating evidence was duly presented to the Phra Khanong Criminal Court by the police.

Meanwhile, the fourth suspect, a Vanuatan citizen who has fled Thailand is now the target of a coordinated effort with Interpol by the Thai police. However, the plot thickens as Mr Agbor’s wife ardently maintains her husband’s innocence.

She gave her statement that Agbor and the slain Taiwanese man had a long history of camaraderie, often dining together whenever Shen was in Thailand. She alleged it was Shen who introduced Agbor to the Vanuatan suspect. In her narration of the sequence of events that led up to the crime, the Cameroonian woman highlighted that Shen had apparently defrauded the Vanuatan man of his money, turning to Agbor as a mediator.

The climax came when the alleged Vanuatan suspect initiated a meeting with Agbor at the Bang Na hotel, where Agbor reportedly stepped out of a room in the fifth floor shortly after opening it. During his call back to the Vanuatan man about the progress of debt collection, instead of a confirmation, Agbor heard alarming loud noises and rushed back to the hotel.

Upon his return to the hotel, the woman held that Agbor was met with a chilling spectacle wherein the absconded suspect, along with the Myanmar man, were involved in an intensive act of pepper-spraying the victim’s face, and in a heroic attempt, Agbor intervened by shielding Shen with his hands. However, the wife dejectedly stated, this daring feat was turned against him, as the Batu Vanuatan man unsettlely singled out Agbor in Shen’s death.
