In a stunning turn of events on May 21, a case of deception and cunning unfolded on the bustling streets of Bangkok when a 46-year-old man known as Vorathep found himself in the clutches of the law. This polished charmer, who had been masquerading as a doctor or high-flying executive, had successfully duped his victims, convincing them to invest more than 8 million baht in the process. Police Major General Witthaya Sriprasertpab, along with his capable team comprising Police Colonel Ekkasit Pansithao and Police Lieutenant Jeerattawat Kitrungruengdet, orchestrated a meticulous plan leading to Vorathep’s capture. The arrest was grounded on a warrant dispensed by the Criminal Court back in March, citing charges that encapsulated fraud and the transmission of falsehoods into a computer system that consequentially harmed others.

The scene of this dramatic arrest? None other than the streets of Ramkhamhaeng Road, just in front of a condominium in Min Buri, Bangkok. The story that followed was one that seemed to leap straight out of a crime novel, woven with elements of trust, betrayal, and significant financial loss. A female entrepreneur, who first encountered Vorathep via the virtual corridors of Facebook, was his unfortunate casualty. The man in question presented a Facebook persona adorned with luxury cars and sophisticated suits that could impress even the sternest critics.

Through engaging personal stories, some of which detailed his past romantic misadventures, Vorathep won the sympathy and trust of his victim. He promised a life of union, leading her to invest in ventures and even transfer ownership of property — homes, vehicles, the works. However, this glittering promise swiftly dulled, as Vorathep severed all ties after gathering assets equivalent to over 8 million baht — approximately US$245,170.

The plot thickened as the victim dug deeper, unearthing a plethora of social media warnings from other women who, too, had fallen prey to Vorathep’s beguiling charm and fraudulent schemes. These accounts detailed how, cloaked in identities ranging from car dealership mogul to medical professional, Vorathep had been perpetuating various scams — all dangling the lure of lucrative business opportunities or romantic cohabitation. Despite vehement denials during police interrogation, the shadows of his extensive criminal past loomed large.

KhaoSod reported a litany of charges against Vorathep, spanning fraud, embezzlement, theft, and document-related infractions across various domains. His antics have led to several court warrants filed by similarly afflicted victims, pointing to a tangled web of deceit and exploitation. Now, in custody at Bueng Kum Police Station, Vorathep awaits the unfolding of legal proceedings that promise to unravel his intricate tapestry of deception.

As we await justice for the victims and witness the unfolding drama, one thing remains clear — Vorathep has inadvertently demonstrated the dark prowess of a master impersonator. His story stands as a cautionary tale that beckons the vulnerable to safeguard their trust and scrutinize the too-good-to-be-true facades that shimmer in the enticing glow of luxury and false promises.

I can’t believe people would fall for such a thing. Aren’t there signs to look for?

      • James M May 22, 2025

Sure, but he was very convincing. Even smart people get scammed with someone like him.

    • professorX May 22, 2025

It’s a fascinating psychological phenomenon. People want to believe in those they’re charmed by.

Why is it always these ‘romantic’ scams that seem to rip people off the most? This guy deserves serious time behind bars.

    • l33tspeak May 22, 2025

Sadly, the law can be lenient on these ‘white-collar’ crimes. They should treat it like any other theft!

      • Leah Jones May 22, 2025

Exactly! It’s crazy that some people see it as less damaging than a physical theft.

I bet he got so cocky thinking he wouldn’t be caught. There has to be some justice for the victims!

  4. SmithA May 22, 2025

Honestly? If people are willing to trust someone they meet online with that amount of money, some blame is on them.

    • Tim L. May 22, 2025

That’s a bit harsh. People can be very trusting, and these scammers are experts at persuasion.

      • SmithA May 22, 2025

I get that, but how do we teach people to be more skeptical? Trust needs balance.

    • Jules87 May 22, 2025

It’s easy to blame the victim, but scam artists exploit emotions. It’s a tough lesson for anyone.

His story sounds unbelievable when you first hear it, but clearly he knew how to pull this off.

As someone who studies criminal psychology, Vorathep’s ability to assume roles speaks to his skill in manipulating behavior.

He certainly seems like he could charm a snake! Skillful in a dangerous way.

      • Dr. B May 22, 2025

Exactly. It’s interesting how charm can sometimes overshadow apparent red flags.

  7. Ramy_P May 22, 2025

Wouldn’t surprise me if he had accomplices. You can’t run scams like this totally alone.

  8. Marryweather May 22, 2025

Is it bad I feel a little he’s just a modern-day outlaw? Still, he crossed a serious line.

  9. banana_platyrhynchos May 22, 2025

Will be interesting to see what kind of defense he tries to put up in court. I doubt he’ll be convincing this time around.

  10. Angie34 May 22, 2025

My heart breaks for the people who believed in him. They must feel so betrayed.

This just goes to show: always do a background check. Verify before you trust.
