Suvarnabhumi Airport’s capacity will increase to 15 million tourists

The remodeling will be accomplished in three years. Prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, 65 million domestic and international travelers passed through Suvarnabhumi’s arrival gates. The Thailand Pass, which formerly restricted entry into Thailand, was eliminated last month, but since then, flights and passengers at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport have only increased by an average of 10%.


The main terminal’s capacity to receive and manage passengers will be significantly impacted by the “Eastern Expansion project,” which would cost 7.8 billion baht and take up 66,000 square meters of space. In order to boost Thailand’s annual arrival capacity to 15 million passengers, the main terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be upgraded on the east side. The Airports of Thailand board will get a final draft of the plan before it is submitted to the government for approval in the early 2023. When construction on the extension is complete in 2025, the airport’s capacity for both domestic and international travelers will increase from 65 million to 80 million. After the about seven-month-long renovation is complete, the eastern side of the terminal will be roomy enough to hold up to 15 million visitors yearly. According to a declaration made this month by Airports of Thailand, the new passenger terminal at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport would be open by April 2023.




Saksayam Chidchob, the transport minister, and representatives from many organizations were present. The next phase is to locate contractors for the extension, which can begin any time between April and July of the following year. August 2023 is set aside for the start of the real construction.
