In an unsettling series of events, a 14-year-old girl, referred to as A, found herself in a precarious situation while enjoying a peaceful day by the waterside with her friend in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. It was supposed to be a simple, serene moment at the pier in front of the old district office in Bang Pa-in district, but the day took a dark turn when a stranger—a boat driver—approached the young pair with intentions far from innocent.

The stranger, later identified as 42-year-old Somkid, didn’t hesitate to intrude on their relaxing afternoon. With an audacity that startled the girls and left onlookers shocked, he nestled himself between the teenage duo, draping an arm around A, making inappropriate advances. His audacity knew no bounds as he brazenly asked the young girl, “Shall we go to a hotel? I’ll cover the room costs.”

A, obviously shocked and terrified, managed to escape from his unsolicited embrace and the very real threat his presence posed. She confronted the man, who immediately turned defensive—his demeanor shifting from a predator in disguise to a cornered animal. Thankfully, her friend, a quick-thinking 16-year-old, was already one step ahead, sensing the impending danger; she had recorded part of the encounter on video.

Amidst this chaos, a bystander—a vigilant angler who was enjoying his day by the water—stepped in to defuse the situation. His intervention was crucial as tensions escalated. But unwelcome surprises were lurking. Following the confrontation, this Good Samaritan found himself on the receiving end of a violent attack by a band of teenagers, leaving him injured. This act of violence added another layer to the already traumatic experience, amplifying A’s fears about personal safety and potential sexual assault.

The young girls wasted no time and reported the sordid incident at the Bang Pa-in police station. They sought justice with Police Lieutenant Vallop Meuangloi at the helm, presenting the video evidence that unequivocally exposed the intentions of the errant boat driver. Upon reviewing the footage, the accused, now nervous and tearful, expressed regret; however, it did not absolve him of his actions.

In response, Police Colonel Adirek Pothipan, the superintendent of Bang Pa-in police station, took swift action. An investigation was ordered, and Somkid was swiftly identified and apprehended. During questioning, Somkid admitted to the charges while sitting teary-eyed at the table. Legal proceedings were swiftly set in motion, with Somkid facing charges of performing indecent acts with a minor under 15 in public.

This episode, distressing as it was, serves as a critical reminder of the importance of vigilance and the power of community intervention. It underscores the necessity for immediate action and the courage of those who stand up against perpetrators. A’s decision to share her story on social media has not only brought awareness to her personal ordeal but has also highlighted the need for societal protection, prompting a collective call for increased safety measures and community vigilance.

While justice is pursued against Somkid, the incident remains a stark reminder of the lurking dangers even in seemingly innocuous environments. The events have rippled through the local community, sparking conversations and raising awareness, ensuring that such transgressions do not go unnoticed, unchecked, or unpunished.

As the legal proceedings continue, the bravery demonstrated by A, her friend, and the helpful angler serves as an empowering tale for the youth and communities at large, emphasizing the impact of resilience and the critical nature of standing up for safety and justice.

Agreed, but it’s also scary that such a thing could happen in a public place. Makes you wonder where we are safe.

Absolutely, it’s a stark reminder that we must always be vigilant and look out for each other.

But why did those other teenagers attack the angler? That part makes no sense to me.

It’s sickening that someone would prey on such young girls. I hope that guy is punished to the fullest extent of the law.

For sure. But it also highlights the need for better security and surveillance in public spaces to deter such crimes.

  3. grower134 January 22, 2025

It’s a good thing they caught it on video. Without that, this could’ve easily been brushed off or blamed on the girls.

  4. Sara P January 22, 2025

Why is it always necessary to have video evidence for action to be taken? Shouldn’t verbal testimony of the victims be enough?

    • Tom J January 22, 2025

Ideally, yes, but unfortunately people often doubt victims without concrete evidence, especially in cases involving minors.

  5. Alex Q January 22, 2025

Those girls showed immense courage. Posting the story online was a smart move, making sure the perpetrator was exposed to a wider audience.

Social media really is a powerful tool in these situations. It helps ensure accountability in ways that traditional systems sometimes fail.

Let’s just hope it also doesn’t lead to undue stress or backlash for the victims.

There should be more bystanders like that angler. His courage deserves recognition.

Seriously, standing up like that isn’t easy. He risked his own safety to help a stranger.

      • Lucas B January 22, 2025

Don’t places already have warning signs or patrols? What more can be done to ensure safety?

    • Sara P January 22, 2025

We could definitely use more community patrol groups, especially in areas frequented by youngsters.

Thank goodness the girls had the presence of mind to act quickly. Not every young person would know how to react to such a situation.

  12. KnightRider January 22, 2025

Why do we need stricter penalties for such offenders? They’re obviously not scared of the law!

Exactly. Fear of punishment is supposed to be a deterrent, but apparently, it’s not working.

Perhaps it’s more about ensuring justice and protecting society than instilling fear.

This makes me wonder if similar incidents regularly go unreported because people are too scared to speak up.

  14. Lucas B January 22, 2025

And sadly, the angler who helped showed us that being a hero doesn’t always end well.

  15. Jessica L January 22, 2025

Indeed, Lucas. It’s especially troubling to see the violence that followed his good deed.

  16. KnightRider January 22, 2025

Maybe post more security or surveillance around such public spots?
