Stepping into their new roles, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, along with his three deputies, initiated a crucial meeting at the Interior Ministry in the heart of Bangkok on Sept 7. Their objective was to set the plot for their term in office, focusing on unwavering loyalty to the highest institution, the enforcement of anti-corruption measures and amplifying support for Pheu Thai’s innovative 10,000-baht digital wallet policy.

Held at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Lat Phrao, an architectural marvel in Bangkok, the meeting saw the gathering of the Interior Ministry’s bright minds. The audience comprised of the interior minister’s deputies, Songsak Thongsri and Chada Thaiset, along with governors of all 77 provinces, and the ministry’s leading executive officials. The aura was set for a marathon of productive debates and constructive policy discussions.

Minister Anutin warmly endorsed the digital wallet policy, a novel idea that would allow citizens to make purchases within a 4-kilometre radius of their registered home addresses. In a bid to turbocharge the local economy, he urged the governors to build policies that would inspire and incentivize people to start creation and production of local goods.

“The prime principle that needs to be observed is the prohibition of any corrupt acts”, Anutin insisted, emphasizing the significance of maximizing the benefit of the 10,000-baht digital wallet for every recipient. His words served as a reminder to maintain a watchful eye over crafty middlemen trying to upgrade 3,000-baht of fiat currency to a 10,000-baht digital token.

Minister Anutin displayed a pro-people stance during his discourse. “I’m a grounded person”, he expressed, “When I visit your province, a simple meet-up is enough – no sophisticated dining or large crowds”. His approach felt like a breath of fresh air in the usual political arena.

Addressing the influential bunch of governors, Anutin urged them to exert their complete effort and display utmost integrity in all professional commitments. This also included an emphasis on transparency in administrative reshuffles and a warning for civil servants against fraudulent promises of facilitated promotions.

Minister Anutin also used the platform to clarify his views against favouritism in the department, stating that any promotions should always be a result of hard work and significant achievements. In an unwavering stand against corruption, he provided an open channel for any governor to report such illicit acts with evidence if necessary.

In conclusion, Anutin stressed the need for ministry officials to adapt to and exploit new technologies. With this, he set a clear direction for the role of technology in serving the populace, thereby underlining his commitment to lead the ministry with a forward-thinking stance.
