The conduct of foreign affairs and diplomatic relations is evolving as Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin introduces a pioneering and pragmatic approach to Thai diplomacy. This innovative strategy, revealed by the Prime Minister in a meeting with Thai ambassadors, consul-generals, commerce attaches and investment promotion officers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hinges on the deployment of Thai envoys in crucial missions to aggrandize the country’s business prospects, investment activities, tourism initiatives, and reputational influence worldwide.

Government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke elucidated on the tenets of the Prime Minister’s speech. Proactive Diplomacy, as it’s ambitiously named, strategically concentrates on diligent diplomatic endeavors that underpin the nation’s economic trajectory while simultaneously safeguarding the public’s interests.

Chai cast a spotlight on the high-level operatives attending the meeting, described as key operatives from ‘Team Thailand’. This select group is entrusted with the crucial task of bolstering the government’s drive for national economic development. Furthermore, Mr. Srettha highlighted the pressing need to execute the proactive diplomacy policy, taking into consideration public perspectives and commercial anticipation for foreign policy developments, Chai explained.

Input from citizens and corporations alike are invaluable for the ongoing elevation of the Thai envoys’ work. Mr. Srettha urged the envoys to adopt a consumer-oriented mindset, echoing similar aspirations held by the administration.

The Premier of Thailand outlined two major frameworks to ensure the administration becomes more consumer-focused. One streamlines the promotion of trade and investment activities by Thai economic attaches, while the other strives to expedite the instigation of fundamental government policies designed to empower the nation’s economy.

Undeniably, it remains a prerequisite for the government to enhance Thailand’s promising ‘ease of doing business’ index while simultaneously speeding up negotiations regarding free trade agreements. ‘Team Thailand’ is tasked with harmonizing the efforts of both public and private sectors to attain the common objective of economic progress. The team shall engage in dialogues with potential foreign investors expressing interest in Thailand and Thai investors focusing their interests overseas.

The second part of Mr. Srettha’s proposal centers on overseas operations aimed at safeguarding the respectable image and dignity of the Thai monarchy, the nation, and its people, Chai concluded.
