Bean to Bar: How a Teen’s Coffee Soap Ignites Hope for Thai Farmers and Disability Foundation

Welcome to the highlands of northern Thailand, where our young visionary, Rawit Thamparanon (aka Beam), a bright-eyed G.12 student from Ruamrudee International School, embarked on a journey that would not only illuminate his path but also spark a beacon of hope for coffee farming communities nestled in the lush mountains and plateaus. Imagine this: rugged terrains cloaked in a muted blanket of mist, and amidst this tranquility, the rhythmic cadence of coffee beans tumbling into burlap sacks—a stark contrast to the hum of Bangkok’s chic cafes serving up these mountain treasures.

But it’s not just about that aromatic cup o’ joe. For Beam, it was a pang of disparity that nudged his conscience—how could he bridge the gap between the hands that harvest and the hands that sip? With a lineage steeped in the art of soap crafting, Beam had an epiphany: why not blend the essence of coffee into the daily lather? The concept was a stroke of genius—a soap that not only cleanses the skin but also invigorates the soul with the rich notes of Arabica from Pang Khon, Chiang Rai.

Guided by the savvy Dr. Dakrong Pissuwan, the famed maestro of Mahidol University’s laboratory where nanoparticles dance and sericin clads golden beads, Beam became an alchemist of change. He immersed himself in concocting a potion of luxury and responsibility—soap steeped in sericin, a silk protein, promising a rendezvous of indulgence and care for your skin.

Every school hiatus was a chapter in ‘NewLeaf’—Beam’s testament to persistence. From the intricate dance of molecules that earned the Thai FDA’s nod, to the conscientious crafting of FSC-certified packaging, every detail whispered his dedication to the cause. He was the puppeteer, orchestrating the symphony of production, branding, and design with a maestro’s precision.

But why stop at the soap suds? NewLeaf’s essence is more than a transaction; it’s a transaction with a heart. The notes of every bar sold harmonize into a melody of generosity—funding the purchase of mattresses for the Redemptorist Foundation for People with Disabilities in Pattaya. Not just that, 100 inaugural soaps, each priced at a humble 49 baht, are promised to the foundation—a token for their fundraising symphony.

On October 11, 2023, the gift of comfort was received with grins and gratitude, setting the stage for a tomorrow where every small step is a giant leap for communal support. Join us in this chorus of change, where a humble bar of soap is not just a daily indulgence but a harbinger of hope and a catalyst of communal harmony.
