Bomb’s Battle: Udon Thani Soldier Fights for Justice Against RTAF Misconduct

A storm is brewing in the serene skies of Udon Thani, a place known more for its tranquil temples than tales of turmoil. Behind the respectful salutes and crisp uniforms of the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) hides a controversy so peculiar, it reads almost like fiction. Cue Bomb, a soldier-turned reluctant chauffeur, embroiled in a tale of power, pressure, and pennies that hardly seems believable.

The saga unfolded when a nosey journalist from Channel 8, thumbing through their smartphone, summoned a Grab ride and stumbled into a web of misused power. Standing in the driver’s seat was Bomb, looking less like a chauffeur and more like a man burdened by a heavy secret. During the ride, a few probing questions revealed a jaw-dropping story – Bomb, whose real identity was a soldier, was moonlighting against his will as a Grab driver.

Bomb’s unexpected career change took off last June when he enlisted in the Wing 23 division nestled in the heart of Udon Thani. Fast forward to October, Bomb’s talents had landed him a curious position – working under a wing deputy commander. As the new year dawned, a bizarre offer came knocking: take to the streets as a Grab driver and channel the earnings to a mysterious recipient – the said officer and his family.

Every story has its money woes, and Bomb’s was the paltry sum of 8,400 baht a month, hardly enough for someone on duty. The arrangement seemed novel at first, with the superior kindly lending a car for the task. But there was a catch – Bomb had to split the profits, keeping a modest 10% for his troubles. His mission, find passengers in Udon Thani, making around 1,000 baht daily – not the jackpot desired by his higher-ups. Relocation to bustling Bangkok ensued, in pursuit of a heftier 3,000 baht daily payday.

Chasing the target proved Herculean, draining both time and petrol while barely keeping Bomb afloat financially. The officer’s demand for daily financial updates through a LINE group chat added salt to the wounds. With no escape route in sight, Bomb hatched a plan that twisted the plot further – a covert confessional to the Channel 8 journalist. Paranoia peeked its head, as Bomb became convinced his car was wired, the officer always staying steps ahead of him.

The climax saw Bomb returning the borrowed vehicle to a buzzing military base in Bangkok, choosing to dodge his superior’s expected wrath. With news reports cracking open the story, the RTAF quickly acted – transferring the deputy commander as an investigation ensued. Promises of justice for the underdog soldier flooded in as if echoing distant thunder.

Bravely stepping from the shadows, Bomb now seeks refuge and reassurance from Saimai Survive, an organization dedicated to aiding those tangled in such plights. His ordeal shines a harsh light on the darker recesses of conscription in Thailand. It is a reality where young men find themselves at the beck and call of superiors, juggling unwanted errands alongside their service duties.

The military faces an uphill battle against its tarnished image, compounded by a multitude of similar scandals. Yet hope flickers as the RTAF vows change, aiming to pave a brighter path for future recruits where their service reflects valor, not venality.

The story of Bomb may just be a mere blip over the wide horizons of military life, but it serves as a powerful reminder: integrity shouldn’t be compromised and justice, no matter how delayed, must inevitably land like an eagle’s descent – swift and resolute.

This story is absolutely shocking! A soldier forced into being a Grab driver? RTAF needs to clean up its act!

    • PeacefulMonk May 15, 2025

True, but let’s not tar all RTAF personnel with the same brush. Investigations are ongoing.

      • ThaiObserver21 May 15, 2025

Sure, but these stories keep cropping up. It’s a systemic issue that needs addressing!

It’s a good thing Bomb spoke out. What if there are more soldiers with similar stories?

    • KogMil May 15, 2025

I’m sure there are! It’s a shame they have to live in fear of their own superiors.

  3. SkepticalStan May 15, 2025

Not sure I buy the whole story. Seems too convenient that a journalist just happened to get in his car.

  4. Kaew May 15, 2025

I hope Bomb gets the justice he deserves. Being used like that is unacceptable.

This reveals a major flaw in the military structure. If they can’t solve this, how can we trust them with national defense?

They do need to evolve and adapt, but thankfully there’s an investigation. Let’s wait for the results.

Sounds like modern-day slavery to me. This can’t be happening in today’s world!

That’s a strong take, but yes, exploitation is never okay regardless of the era.

I read this twice and I’m still aghast. Bomb is a hero for exposing this nonsense.

RTAF is just failing its soldiers. If they don’t make changes soon, who’s going to want to serve there?

  9. MingYo May 15, 2025

The power dynamics at play here are disturbing. Will we ever see the day soldiers are treated fairly?

    • MarioBuilder May 15, 2025

We can hope. Maybe Bomb’s case will be the catalyst for change.

Isn’t anyone questioning the integrity of the officer involved? Hope they face consequences.

They have to be accountable—it’s a scandal rooted in greed and power abuse.

I just don’t understand how these things happen in the first place. Does the military have any oversight?

I smell a conspiracy. Who knows how deep this goes? Could just be the tip of the iceberg.

I’m with you on that. The truth might be stranger than fiction.
