In an unfortunate turn of events, an incident occurred outside the Yarang Municipality Office at around 10:50 pm. This location was under the scrutiny of the local police officers, who were on their usual patrol in an automobile, with two community volunteers accompanying by motorbike, assessing the safety standards of their jurisdiction.
It has been reported that insurgents had engineered a strategic plan and executed it at the perfect time. The situation escalated when a bomb was detonated, timed to coincide with the arrival of the patrol team, thereby inflicting damage to their vehicles. This was no mere act of vandalism; it was a well-planned ambush designed to strike fear and cause chaos.
The attackers did not stop at this explosive disruption; they took the reigns of terror a step further. Military-grade firearms were at their disposal, and with no qualms or hesitations, they opened fire. The relentless firing resulted in a tragic loss. One of the volunteers, Chanwit Dorloh, lost his life in the line of duty. His bravery and commitment to serving his community will never be forgotten.
The aftermath of this brutal attack was devastating, leaving three dedicated police officers and another volunteer injured. The injured officers – Pol Corporal Ismaen Jitlang, Pol Corporal Sarawut Susan, Pol Corporal Boonkini Duere, together with Narong Rakaew, also a volunteer, faced the harmful consequences of the insurgents’ violent tactics.
The disturbing event was not limited to one location only. Concurrently, another group of insurgents displayed their act of terror and destruction in Rawaeng, Krado, and Yarang sub-districts. They masterminded and detonated a bomb next to electric poles, plunging these places into darkness. This not only stoked fear among the residents but also caused a major power outage in these areas. The blackout was not a random act of destruction, but officials believed it to be a deliberate defensive tactic. It was most likely a strategic move by the insurgents to cover their escape tracks by engulfing the locality in blackout conditions.
The co-ordinated attacks were a grim testament to their criminal intentions. However, these dreadful events have ignited a stronger resolve in the security agencies, leading them to tighten the security and vigilance across the region. The battle between law enforcement and the perpetrators of these crimes continues.
