Pol Maj Siwakorn Saibua, a notable figure within the Thai Highway Police, lay in royal rest at Wat Phra Sri Mahathat, located in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district. His procession, conducted on a carriage, heralded a ceremony of mourning and respect for this fallen officer, tragically killed at a dinner party in Nakhon Pathom.
In a surprising turn of events, two senior police officials, both present at the fateful function hosted by Kamnan Nok on the evening of Siwakorn’s passing, have now been reassigned to stand-by roles. According to a mandate sanctioned by Pol Lt Gen Thanayut Wuthicharasdamrong, the top officer of Provincial Police Region 7, Pol Maj Gen Jakkrit Kruasunthornwanich, and Pol Col Phuphon Thapcharoen confine their operations to the headquarters of the Provincial Police Region 7, effective from Monday, September 11.
This massive reshuffling stems from the tragic incident on September 6. On this night, rogue shooter Thananchai Manmak ruthlessly assassinated Pol Maj Siwakorn Saibua and severely injured Pol Lt Col Wasin Panpee. These victims were among a slew of law enforcement personnel partaking in Kamnan Nok’s party.
The murder is suspected to be orchestrated by Praween Chankhlai, chief of tambon Takong in Muang district, and referred to by locals as Kamnan Nok. Praween’s nefarious motives are believed to be linked to his wife’s nephew being denied an occupational advancement by the victim highway patrolman. After the gruesome affair, the groundless gunman was subsequently eliminated in a Kanchanaburi province police skirmish.
The aftermath saw the Royal Thai Police Office instituting a rigorous investigation into every officer present at the dinner party. This examination resulted in six of the partying officers becoming the subject of arrest warrants. After being apprehended, they were terminated from the service and found themselves accused of aiding in offense-related activities.
The media-fuelled display of a substantial police entity at the dinner party raised public questions about their closeness to Praween and potential negative ramifications on the credibility of Provincial Police Region 7 and the Royal Thai Police as an institution.
The fiasco culminated in the apprehension and trial of the six officers for allegedly assisting Praween in eluding the law and tampering with crime scene evidence. Their court appearance took place at the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases of Region 7 in Samut Songkhram province.
The tragedy of Siwakorn’s premature passing was solemnly honoured at Sala 11 of Wat Phra Sri Mahathat in the Bangkok district of Bang Khen. Family, friends, and colleagues came together on a Monday for his royally-sponsored cremation. The ceremonial proceedings were overseen by Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, the deputy national police chief, and conducted by the respected Supreme Patriarch.
