The serene coastal region of Chon Buri found itself embroiled in scandal when local authorities, following the directives of provincial governor Thawatchai Srithong, initiated a formal investigation into an alleged encroachment upon the land. Acting district chief, Chusak Nantithanyathada, was assigned this delicate operation as the area’s calm was disturbed by accusations of construction encroachments on the stunning coastline.
The focus of this investigation? A mysterious ramp appearing abruptly behind a now-obsolete resort nestled within Sattahip’s Samae San district. The first signs of suspicion were sparked on September 4th, when thorough inspections were conducted by the vigilant authorities. A curious fixture indeed, the ramp was meant to serve no obvious purpose but raised several alarms due to its precisely plotted positioning and the apparent infringement on nature’s playground.
As per a senior forestry official, Mongkrot Aunruang’s precise assessments using advanced GPS mapping tools, the offending construction had invaded about seven acres of untouched land. This meandering ramp, standing at an imposing one metre wide and stretching up to 79 meters in length, boasted a concrete landing at its end, further adding to the mystery.
True to form, the area soon resonated with the echoes of heavy machinery laboring away on the beach, with the comings and goings of numerous trucks and backhoes around the construction site. Alarmed by this evident violation of nature, officials promptly halted the construction, asserting that the area required extensive inspection.
Further investigations unveiled undeniable evidence of dredging and unauthorized excavation, marked by telltale mounds of abandoned sand and rock. These were all indisputable signs of illicit activities carried out in an area that’s part of the revered forest and general public access. Despite the audacious construction project, no formal permissions had been sought from local authorities.
Faced with this irrefutable evidence, the acting district chief, accompanied by a long-standing local leader from the Samae San’s Moo 3 district, filed an official complaint with the local police. The named defendants were none other than the owner of the now-defunct resort, Naruedon Pisittakasem, and the village’s head, Apichart Aramrat. Both are suspected of having supervised the contentious construction.
Now facing numerous charges, including construction collusion that damages the forest without permission as per Section 54 of the Forest Act, destruction of state and forest land, and engagement in activities detrimental to natural resources under the Enhancement and Conservation of National Environmental Quality Act, the duo is in the eye of a legal hurricane. Chon Buri’s peaceful coast waits as justice prepares to strike down those who dared to disrupt her tranquility.
