In the digital age, knowledge is power, and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is at the forefront of democratizing this knowledge. As part of its ‘Digital Bus for Remote Areas’ initiative, launched on November 22, 2023, it’s working in tandem with Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and the National Cybersecurity Agency (NCSA) to disseminate crucial edification in remote areas of Thailand from 21 – 24 November 2023.

The Digital Bus project prides itself as one of Huawei’s flagship initiatives with perennial mobile classroom missions for the past two years, targeting bridging the digital divide across rural Thailand. This year’s focus is on granting 3,000 Khanompittaya School students in Tambon Khanom, Amphoe Khanom, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province access to digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness, and clean energy concepts.

The mission doesn’t stop there; it also introduces these digital natives to the world of clean energy solutions, submerging them in an ocean of environmental consciousness.

Mr. Kajonkiat Rakpanichmanee, Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat, extolled the virtues of the project during its launch at Khanompittaya School. For him, the public and private sectors’ concerted efforts towards upskilling Thailand’s future workforce and establishing digital literacy is crucial for the country’s competitive edge.

AVM Amorn Chomchoey, Secretary General of NCSA, mirrored this sentiment, given Thailand houses 61.21 million internet users, comprising 85.3% of the total populace. Chomchoey vehemently supports cybersecurity education as an urgent priority of the NCSA and lauds the ‘Digital Bus for Remote Areas’ project as a success story of public-private symbiosis to enhance future digitization.

Mr. Surachai Chatchalermpun, Country Cybersecurity and Privacy Officer at Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., points out a consistent skew towards low digital literacy, particularly in remote spheres. He affirms Huawei’s commitment to social equity, highlighting the company’s Digital Bus and other similar initiatives support the country’s digital transformation by leveling the playing field in digital education.

Over the last two years, the Digital Bus project has tirelessly traversed 13 provinces, aiming to imbue the future ICT workforce with digital savvy. This driving force educates on various aspects of digital technology, including cybersecurity, 5G connectivity, AI, IoT, and Cloud technology.

Fostering partnerships with governmental bodies like the Office of Commercial Affairs in Phayao Province and the Phetchabun Department of Skill Development, Huawei has extended its program to reach government employees and labourers. This year, the program blossoms into a first-of-its-kind collaboration with the NCSA to promote cybersecurity knowledge in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The Khanompittaya School has utilized the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC)’s USO Net building as a computer lab, offering over 300 students enhanced learning opportunities in digital comprehension, cybersecurity, data privacy, and renewable energy. The program also encourages environmental stewardship through tree planting and other eco-friendly activities.

In alignment with Huawei’s slogan ‘Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand’, the Digital Bus project champions a future where digital literacy is common currency and the digital divide is a thing of the past. It underscores Huawei’s vision for a sustainable and digital-savvy Thailand, primed to face the opportunities of tomorrow.
