The authorities are fervently pursuing four Chinese nationals who executed a brazen home invasion at a luxury residence in Pathum Thani. The bold criminals coerced their Chinese victim to transfer a staggering $2 million—equivalent to 70 million baht—in digital currency. The shocking event unfolded in the wee hours of Wednesday, around 2 am, at a house located in tambon Ban Mai, Muang district. In total, six individuals were present at the residence: three men and three women, according to police reports.

Ke Jibao, a 35-year-old Chinese businessman and one of the victims, recounted the harrowing night. He and his wife were in the sanctuary of their bedroom when their world was violently shattered. Four masked intruders, each brandishing both guns and knives, stormed into their home. The criminals quickly subdued Mr. Ke, his wife, and a maid, binding their hands and feet.

The assailants, clearly orchestrating a well-thought-out heist, forced Mr. Ke to contact a relative in China to authorize a $2 million digital money transfer. After ensuring the money was transferred, they meticulously removed the home’s security camera servers, erasing the footage of their crime. Adding insult to injury, they fled the scene in Mr. Ke’s black Toyota Alphard.

Dazed and distressed, Mr. Ke managed to reveal that he sustained a minor knife wound on his right wrist. Another victim, a 26-year-old male servant named Chen Mingfa, suffered a painful facial wound after being struck on the forehead with a gun.

In a fortunate twist, the stolen Alphard was located later that day. It was abandoned near a power plant on Liap Khlong Prapa road around 1:30 pm. Police swiftly transferred the vehicle to the Police Forensic Science Centre 1 for a thorough investigation.

Despite the traumatic ordeal, Mr. Ke was visibly baffled about the motive behind the robbery. He expressed bewilderment over how the criminals were familiar with his relative in China.

Officials pointed out that the meticulous execution suggested a well-planned robbery. The suspects had cleverly infiltrated the gated community on foot, thus evading the identity checks usually enforced at the entrance.

Pol Col Narong Iamrahong, the commander of the Pak Khlong Rangsit station, assured the public that investigators are leaving no stone unturned. They are meticulously reviewing footage from other security cameras in the area, hoping to trace the movements of the suspects. Both the victims and neighbors are scheduled for further questioning to glean more information.

How did they know so much about Mr. Ke and his family? Sounds like an inside job to me.

    • Lena D August 15, 2024

Could be, but it might just as easily be thorough planning. Criminals are getting craftier these days.

      • Joe August 15, 2024

True, but it’s hard to believe they knew about his relative without inside info. There’s more to this story.

      • SmartRig August 15, 2024

I’d bet it’s a combo of both. Insider info plus meticulous planning.

    • Hannah S. August 15, 2024

Right? It’s crazy to think they knew exactly where to go and who to contact without some inside tip.

      • Pauline X August 15, 2024

Exactly. This has ‘high-level planning’ written all over it.

      • Grower134 August 15, 2024

Glad others see it too. I hope the police get to the bottom of this.

Why do people keep so much money in digital currency? It’s just making them targets.

    • CryptoKing August 15, 2024

Because it’s the future! Plus, you can do international transfers so easily.

      • BillyD August 15, 2024

But is it worth the risk? This guy got robbed of $2 million!

      • Steve T August 15, 2024

The convenience outweighs the risk for many people, though.

    • Shelly August 15, 2024

It’s not like physical money is any safer. If someone wants to rob you, they will find a way.

      • BillyD August 15, 2024

Fair point. But $2 million?! That’s a huge target.

  3. EcoEnthusiast August 15, 2024

What kind of gated community has such poor security? This is unacceptable!

    • Alex August 15, 2024

Totally agree. This whole situation should have been preventable.

  4. Carmen R. August 15, 2024

I feel so bad for Mr. Ke and his family. This must have been so traumatizing!

  5. Timothy August 15, 2024

Can’t believe they got away so easily. Sounds like the local police need to step up their game.

    • Jia L August 15, 2024

Police are doing their best. These criminals clearly knew what they were doing.

      • Timothy August 15, 2024

I still think they should’ve been caught by now. Too many CCTV cameras these days.

    • OfficerJoe August 15, 2024

Investigations take time. Rushing might compromise the accuracy.

  6. Larry Davis August 15, 2024

This is exactly why gated communities aren’t necessarily safer. Criminals always find a way.

  7. Eva August 15, 2024

Does anyone else find it strange that they stole the security camera servers? That’s some movie-level planning.

  8. SmartRig August 15, 2024

How the hell did they get into a gated community on foot? Security needs a serious overhaul!

    • SammyG August 15, 2024

Not to mention, removing the camera servers too. It’s like they knew exactly how things run there.

    • Diane August 15, 2024

This shows how faulty human systems of security can be. Tech can be outsmarted.

  9. Justice4All August 15, 2024

This case will probably go cold like so many others. High-profile or not.

    • SkepticalSara August 15, 2024

Don’t be so pessimistic. There’s a lot of evidence to work with in this case.

  10. Jojo August 15, 2024

I don’t understand why criminals always think they can get away with these things. It’s only a matter of time before they get caught.

  11. BigFish August 15, 2024

I wonder what the security companies think about this. Will they even take responsibility?

    • Jane K. August 15, 2024

Good point. Maybe they’ll upgrade their protocols after this.

    • BigFish August 15, 2024

They better. This is a huge embarrassment for them.

    • Chris H August 15, 2024

It’s not just the security company; the neighborhood association also has to answer.

  12. Marie August 15, 2024

Hope Mr. Ke and his family recover soon. Must be hard dealing with such a loss.

  13. SkepticalSara August 15, 2024

Who keeps $2 million in digital currency?! Why not split it across different assets?

    • CryptoKing August 15, 2024

Diversifying is smart, but digital currency offers liquidity and ease of transactions.
