Notwithstanding the non-achievement of quorum that day, the nation’s venerable party, steeped in history, expressed optimism that they would have a new leader steering their ship by November. As the leaves of the political landscape continue to shuffle, it’s worth noting that the pulse of Thai political scene beats within 82 parties that are active and thriving currently. The most recent pulse check delivered by the Office of the Election Commission, as of September 21, offered an insight into the heart of the political spectrum. The data revealed an impressive aggregate membership of 1,446,454 individuals, scattered across 473 branches with 1,532 provincial party representatives.
Yet, with all the numbers laid bare, only a select few parties boast of commanding large memberships. At the forefront of this illustrious list stands the Democrat Party, leading the charge with 89,526 registered members, manifested through 21 party branches, and backed by 177 provincial party representatives. Its robust membership and vast reaches stand as a testament to its pole position in the political race.
In close pursuit of the Democrat Party is Pheu Thai, boasting of a formidable force of 72,454 members scattered across five branches, reinforced by 19 provincial representatives. The Thai Sang Thai party is the next in line, with an impressive roll of 66,493 members divided among six branches, with the support of 64 provincial representatives. Bhumjaithai is also no far behind with its substantial strength of 62,714 members, four branches, and 76 provincial representatives.
Moving forward, the aptly named Move Forward party stands with a strength of 60,069 members, five branches, and the support of 159 provincial representatives. In contrast, Palang Pracharath is close behind with an almost identical membership strength totaling 59,882, represented in four branches and backed by 136 provincial representatives.
The United Thai Nation flaunts a strong party muscle with 57,435 members, divided among 21 branches and supported by 86 provincial representatives. Lastly, the Seri Ruam Thai party stands firmly with 50,493 members, four branches, and the support of 75 provincial representatives.
