Thailand’s Weekend Weather Alert: Storms to Soak 57 Provinces

Attention thrill-seekers and rain enthusiasts! Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has sounded the alarm with a wet weekend forecast that promises to soak 57 provinces, from the bustling streets of Bangkok to the tranquil landscapes in the north and northeast. Grab your umbrellas and waterproof boots because Mother Nature is planning a lively performance, covering a whopping 60-80% of these areas in showers and storms.

Bangkok, the sleepless city, will see its iconic skyline painted with ominous clouds, as thunderstorms flirt with 60% of the area. Some neighborhoods might even get an extra showering hug of heavy rain. Locals will welcome cooler breezes as temperatures linger from 26-28°C, peaking between 32-34°C. A perfect excuse to swap your iced latte for a warm cup of Thai tea!

Up north, the provinces that usually showcase serene backdrops and laid-back vibes are gearing up for a vigorous downpour. From the misty mountains of Chiang Mai to the cultural heart of Chiang Rai, up to 70% of the area may experience lively thunderstorms. Some lucky (or unlucky) spots like Mae Hong Son and Phayao, might even find themselves dancing under very heavy rains. Temperatures will play between a cozy 23-26°C at the lowest and will tentatively climb to 28-34°C at its highest.

Those in the northeastern region should brace for a rain-drenched weekend with thunderstorms projected to splash over 80% of the landscape. From the scenic province of Loei to the bustling streets in Udon Thani, significant rainfalls are on the cards. Bundle up because temperatures will dip to a refreshing 22-25°C and peak at a soothing 29-33°C.

Central Thailand won’t be left out of the meteorological party, seeing thunderstorms spread over 60% of the area. Provinces like Chai Nat and Lopburi might get more than their fair share of the waterworks. With temperatures frolicking from a mild 24-26°C to warm highs of 33-36°C, the rain gods are ensuring the central folks have enough reasons to perfect their rain dance.

The eastern fronts won’t escape the thrill, as thunderstorms are anticipated to shower 60% of the region. Heavy rain is expected to visit friendly locales like Chachoengsao and Chanthaburi. Whether you’re diving into the shores of Rayong or exploring the greenery of Nakhon Nayok, temperatures will hover from a temperate 24-27°C and peak graciously at 31-34°C.

Down south, adventurers on the East Coast should prepare for an encounter with thunderstorms across 40% of the area. From the palm-fringed beaches of Chumphon to the culturally rich lands of Pattani, raincoats are the accessory of choice. Temperatures here will play between 23-25°C, warming to 32-35°C. Waves whisper enticingly at about 1 metre high but will roar to over 2 metres amidst the tempests.

On the West Coast, the scene is set for another rain-show, with 40% coverage in the region. While staring into the turquoise waters in Phuket or wandering through the lush beauty of Phang Nga, expect temperatures of 24-26°C rising gently up to 32-35°C. Sea waves flex their muscles, hitting up to 2 metres where storms reign, ensuring the coast maintains its reputation for dramatic swells.

And as we anticipate the elements’ dramatic entrance, Thailand continues its dance across the news spectrum. From cannabis regulations lighting a spark of controversy to flood-driven chaos in Chiang Rai, the nation’s heartbeat remains vivid and relentless. Meanwhile, bold moves in the property sector and notable street drama like a rare leopard sighting in Phetchaburi keep eyes peeled. All in all, whether it’s rain or shine, Thailand promises a landscape charged with stories, excitement, and a hint of mystery at every turn!

On the contrary! A walk in the rain can be quite refreshing. Plus, the sound of rain is soothing.

True, but have you tried driving in Bangkok during a storm? It’s chaos!

Perfect excuse to cozy up with a cup of Thai tea. Anyone else excited for the cooler temperatures?

    • TeaLover92 June 28, 2025

Absolutely! Thai tea is life. Although, a hot drink in this humidity? Not for everyone!

      • ChaiFanatic June 28, 2025

Fair point! Maybe I’ll add some ice just in case.

  3. Nat June 28, 2025

I’m in the northeastern part, and honestly, we’re used to the rain by now. It’s more concerning when it stops raining.

    • LoeiLocal June 28, 2025

Same here! But don’t you think it’s affecting our plantations too much this year?

    • Nat June 28, 2025

Yes, the farmers are definitely struggling. Hopefully, the storms will ease up soon.

Waves could be up to 2 meters high! Time to grab my surfboard, not cancel plans!

      • BeachBob June 28, 2025

Surfing sounds like fun, but it’s a bit too risky for my taste!

  5. EcoWarrior June 28, 2025

With all these storms, shouldn’t local governments be more focused on sustainable infrastructure?

Rain or shine, I’ll still enjoy Chiang Mai’s beauty this weekend. Nature shows its charm in all weathers.

This heavy rain sounds like nature’s way of telling us to slow down and enjoy the small moments inside.

    • UrbanJunkie June 28, 2025

But what about the city workers? Not everyone can afford to slow down!

      • WeatherOracle June 28, 2025

That’s true. We really need better systems in place to accommodate these weather changes.

Can’t wait to explore the mountains post-rain in the north! It’s the best time to see lush greenery.

I doubt the storms will be that bad. The media always blows things out of proportion.

    • StormWatcher June 28, 2025

Tell that to the people living in low-lying areas like Chanthaburi during these downpours!

    • SkepticalNed June 28, 2025

Okay, fair point. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Should I cancel my flight to Bangkok? I don’t want to be stuck in my hotel all weekend.

    • TravelWithJoy June 28, 2025

Nah, just make sure you pack accordingly. Weather can’t stop a true adventurer!

      • Anna June 28, 2025

Thanks for the encouragement! Guess I’ll pack my raincoat and see what’s out there.
