Prasert took a moment to express his heartfelt condolences for the heartbreaking losses caused by the ongoing conflict and emphasized the need for public vigilance against cybercriminals potentially soliciting donations. He reminded everyone that such malevolent actions could cause significant financial loss. His advice to concerned citizens was to stay tuned to official updates regarding the Israel-Hamas situation via official government channels and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rather than seeking information through unreliable online social platforms.

Strengthening communication and enhancing safety measures, the Ministry, through the National Telecommunications Company, is rendering free communication services to Israel. Anyone can easily dial 001 800, followed by the needed destination number post the IVR voice prompt. This notable service is conveniently available across all networks.

A new initiative is being launched known as the Anti-Online Scam Operation Centre (AOC). The AOC purports to combat cybercrimes, functioning as a comprehensive one-stop solution centre. Its design enables the swift suspension of any transactions/accounts tied to scams. Additionally, it provides guidance to the public about online safety and how to tackle potential threats. The AOC is set to start operating from November 1, offering 24/7 service through a 100-line call centre.

The week of October 1 to 8 presented an alarming increase in cyberthreats with 2,417 instances of data blockages identified, averaging an uneasy 302 cases (or URLs) every single day. This reflected a massive surge from the previous year’s daily average of 54.6 cases. The marked increase is largely attributable to sophisticated blocking methods adopted by the Ministry personnel and the cooperative efforts with various online social platforms.

Following these alarming trends, Prasert held productive discussions with social media giants Facebook and TikTok on October 10, focusing mainly on preventing online deception and illegal activities. Key talking points included the misuse of advertisements for fraudulent activities, dealing with harmful online communication, and eliminating the propagation of fake news. Further subject matters were discussed as well, such as potential collaboration in using social media platforms for the development, career progression, and income generation of Thai personnel.

As an all-encompassing solution for the public, the AOC aims to provide prompt and comprehensive actions against cybercriminals. Advanced plans include setting up a war room under the AOC, equipped with innovative Intelligent Assistant (IA) technology and an intelligence-assisted platform to collect and analyse extensive data. This data will be used for both preventative measures and punitive actions. This advanced platform will be linked with the Central Fraud Registry of the Bankers’ Association and the data exchange systems of telecommunication service providers. This integration aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the personnel combating cybercrimes. With the assistance of Artificial Intelligence, issues can be promptly resolved for the public’s safety.
