Between January 1 and July 6, 249,466 Indian visitors visited Thailand. 11,27 percent of the 2,214,132 tourists who have visited Thailand so far this year are represented by this. In order to increase Indian travel, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has suggested extending arrival visas from 15 to 45 days and tourist visas from 30 to 45 days. Over 10% of the 2.2 million visitors who have entered Thailand this year, according to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, have come from India. The recovery in the post-pandemic world and tourism statistics have received a lot of attention from the authorities. The majority of them—about 5,300—crossed the border from Malaysia. Additionally, 3,000 people arrived from India, 1,800 from Singapore, 1,700 from Vietnam, and 400 from Australia. For weekend getaways or day outings, many Malaysians cross the southern border, especially to Hat Yai and Songkhla. The Thai government is certain that these Indian tourists would boost regional economies and Thailand’s tourism sector.
Because China contributed for one-third of the 40 million yearly visitors before Covid-19, the lack of Chinese tourists is affecting all of Thailand. The province has seen an increase in reservations and visitors from India, so business owners and tourism organizations need to get ready to meet the demand for lodging, according to the Thai government. This is an effort to make up for the roughly 13 million Chinese tourists who made Thailand their annual destination before the outbreak (2019) and are still subject to restrictions that severely restrict their travel since the pandemic. For instance, on July 6, almost 31,000 foreign visitors arrived in Thailand. In the first half of this year, India has sent more tourists abroad than any other country. Since Chiang Mai has traditionally welcomed Chinese visitors, who are still subject to travel restrictions, Chiang Mai has been seeking Indian visitors, who make up the majority of Phuket visitors. According to a spokeswoman from a recent tourism forum in Chiang Mai, the recent South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange 2022 in New Delhi has helped enhance the number of Indian tourists visiting Chiang Mai. Tourism as a whole is expanding, with income expected to reach 125 billion baht this year.
India is the top sending country of tourists to Thailand
