The groundbreaking health initiative famously known as the “treatment anywhere for just 30 baht” remains one of the triumphant electoral pledges by the reigning Pheu Thai Party.
Dr. Cholnan Srikaew, the Public Health Minister, when unveiling these critical policies explained that their sole purpose was to manifest tangible results within the first 100 days. He further elaborated that several actions under these policies were already underway and are anticipated to yield fruitful outcomes just in time for the New Year, offering a welcomed gift to the populace.
The “anywhere treatment” plan acts as an extension of Thaksin Shinawatra’s government’s revolutionary 30-baht universal healthcare scheme which was launched in 2002 during his tenure as the Prime Minister.
In this renewed version of the ground-breaking scheme, the beneficiaries, for a mere 30 baht, would garner coverage for primary health concerns at all participating hospitals.
Dr. Cholnan unveiled that the scheme was now poised to commence across 27 provinces that span four healthcare zones. Accompanying this extraordinary health policy, there are nine other immediate impact health strategies which are:
• Extension and growth of health units or hospitals functioning under the influential and revered royal patronage or those emerging from royal initiative projects.
• Standing up district hospitals across all fifty districts of the city of Bangkok, complemented by a well-equipped hospital boasting 120-bed facility in the Muang district of Chiang Mai.
• Every province must establish a dedicated treatment unit for tackling mental health issues and drug addiction.
• Nationwide disbursement of a whopping one million doses of the HPV vaccine to be administered specifically to women aged between 11 to 20.
• Bolstering the morale and mapping out career trajectories for healthcare professionals through the provision of 3,000 permanent roles for nurses and specialized nurses exclusively.
• Each healthcare sector must integrate a palliative care center within its precincts.
• Prioritize childbirth promotion on the national agenda and orchestrating seamless integration with related agency policies.
• Drive economic growth through the health sector by crafting model communities and creating ‘blue zones’ intended for residents enjoying long lives.
• The debut of the “One Region, One Sky Doctor” initiative demonstrates Thailand’s preparedness to manage medical emergencies, aiming to become a beacon for medical tourists worldwide.
