International Heist: Colombian and Peruvian Thieves Arrested After 5 Million Baht Burglary in Thailand

In a plot twisted straight out of a crime novel, four international thieves, hailing from Colombia and Peru, have managed to orchestrate a dramatic theft spree at some of Thailand’s poshest living quarters. Their exploits returned riches worth a staggering 5 million baht (that’s about US$143,510 if you’re counting) in a grand heist that also brought them an abundant amount of notoriety.

The authorities swiftly swooped in on these cunning crooks at the Mueang Pathum Thani Police Station at the stroke of 7 pm on April 8. It was no ordinary arrest; the stakes were high and the suspense, even higher. The team of ace detectives, led by Police Lieutenant General Surapol Prembutra, included none less than Police Major General Yuthana Jonkhun, Police Colonel Harit Kamjumpon, and Police Colonel Wiwat Asawawiboon, who have now become quite the proverbial heroes in this enthralling saga.

Behind bars, the arrested quartet included 64-year-old Raul Ferney Nino Quitian, 46-year-old Nelson Andes Malo Rojas, and 65-year-old Luis Guillermo Castillo Romero, all esteemed guests from Colombia, along with their younger accomplice, 29-year-old Sandro Miranda Pomalia from Peru. Amid the fallout from their ill-gotten gains, authorities found a bronze Toyota Vios bearing the number plate 8กศ-5901 Bangkok amongst their plunder. This vehicle was destined to be an icon of infamy.

The treasure trove they carted off – well, it had everything a discerning thief would swoon over; a safe, a collection of watches, coveted gold jewelry, a lady’s handbag filled with intrigue, mobile phones, and over 100 other items that sparkled with regrettable attraction. These shadowy figures attempted to make a hasty escape to Laos via the Nong Khai province, but alas, they got more than what they bargained for, including a suite not likely to be found on TripAdvisor.

Tragically, or perhaps fittingly, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surapol’s insights point to sighs of light on the horizon. On a crisp April 6 evening at around 8 pm, the sweet serenity of Pathum Thani was abruptly shattered. Duangdao Lertdee, a local stalwart, returned from a dinner expedition. She opened her front door, only to walk into disaster – a plundering of precious possessions had taken place. Her gold necklaces, diamond rings, watches, the ancestral jewelry, all disappeared! Fortunately, her quick report led to a gripping 20-minute high-stakes chase captured on CCTV, composed of thrilling feats by the felons.

Acting on their deductions, police witnessed the thieves swashbuckling in and out, expertly evading braced fences as if auditioning for a climactic scene in a Hollywood thriller. The meticulous police work tracked their every move, eventually leading to their capture, much to Duangdao’s heartfelt relief.

In this cunningly woven net of deceit, investigations unearthed a further twist – the opulent strategies of the gang. These masterminds set camp in a Bangkok house within the Lat Krabang district, where they enjoyed the thrill of rental cars that spirited them into affluent, unguarded housing developments. Their modus operandi? Simple – like scene veterans, they watched, waited, rang doorbells, confirmed vacancies, then watched some more.

It doesn’t end there! Through liaisons on Khao San Road, the merry Peruvian maven met and aligned himself with his craftier Colombian counterparts. Their antics woven into a tapestry of intrigue have led authorities to suspect a more expansive syndicate is at play, inviting speculation of further intrigues behind those quilted curtains.

For our unsung heroine, Duangdao, the endgame arrived with heartfelt gratitude towards the swift and decisive police force. Her laudations shone beams of accolades as she admired how operation-click-click soon culminated in some golden recoveries (a steadfast nod to that jewelry!), all while being profoundly grateful for the collective courage and quick coordination displayed by the Mueang Pathum Thani constabulary.

      • Larry D April 9, 2025

True, but there’s a fine line between guts and stupidity. With that arrest, clearly crossing into the latter.

I can’t believe they almost got away by blending in with rented cars. Shows why it’s essential to have more robust security systems.

    • SkepticalSandra April 9, 2025

Or criminal minds are just adapting too quickly for traditional security systems to handle.

    • TechMaster3 April 9, 2025

With AI and machine learning, security systems will soon outsmart these criminals. It’s just a matter of time.

These stories make crime seem glamorous when there’s nothing glamorous about stealing from others.

For real. It’s sad that movies have glorified such acts to a dangerous extent.

And yet, they always seem to get caught. Karma in action!

Good on the Thai police for catching them and ensuring justice. That’s not always the outcome in international crimes!

I can’t believe they were trying to sneak into Laos. Did they think they would actually get away with it?

They probably thought if they made it across the border, they’d be home free.

  10. Lilith Viper April 9, 2025

I wonder why people idolize such crimes? It’s a twisted admiration. Do your own work, don’t take someone else’s!

At the end of the day, it’s a small world. They didn’t realize how quickly news can travel in a connected world!

  12. Hank Hill April 9, 2025

How they were caught on CCTV should be made into a training guide on how NOT to perform a heist.

Brave police work led to arrests and recoveries. Makes you feel a bit more secure, knowing they’re out there.

Yep! Every successful operation boosts public confidence.

  14. NoirNarrator April 9, 2025

This whole saga reads like a crime novel, but remember: real life isn’t a book, and criminals face real consequences.

    • PenUltimate April 9, 2025

Couldn’t agree more! Let’s hope this becomes a cautionary tale.
