Diving into two decades of horological excellence, Orient, the celebrated Japanese watchmaker, made significant waves with a jubilant celebration of its iconic sports dive design watch series. This grand event, marking the 20th anniversary of the Orient Diver Design, was not just another gathering—it was an epic showcase that unveiled a limited edition timepiece, masterfully paying homage to its sea-inspired legacy. Held at Central @ Central World’s 1st floor Event Arena, this gathering signaled Orient Thailand’s triumphant return to grand exhibitions after a six-year hiatus, enchanting enthusiasts on the magical evening of September 17, 2024.
At the helm of the event was Mr. Yudthapol Tantivongsakij, Managing Director of United Krungthong Trading Co., Ltd., the official distributor of ORIENT watches in Thailand. He took center stage to inaugurate the ceremony, flanked by Ms. Yuki Yaguchi from Seiko Epson Corporation, and Central’s poised executives, Ms. Siriporn Lijutipoom, Omnichannel Category Director for Luxury, Young Fashion, and Watches, and Mr. Thossapol Varaeksiri, Head of Merchandising – Watch. Following their rousing opening remarks, charismatic event host Mr. Can Atirut Kittipatana invited Mr. Kom Sajjavarodom, Orient Brand Manager, and Ms. Yuki Yaguchi to delve into the enthralling history of the special limited edition timepiece commemorating the 20-year journey of the Orient Diver Design.
“Since its debut in 2004, the Orient Diver Design has stood as a monumental model, recognized by the dolphin symbol gracefully engraved on the case back, endearingly called the ‘Orient Mako’ by collectors,” Mr. Kom recounted. “The hallmark of this 20th anniversary limited edition is its breathtaking gradient blue dial, transitioning from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock, capturing the mesmerising charm of the surrounding oceans of Japan. The dial is intricately embossed with wave patterns for added allure and features the words ‘Anniversary Edition’ at the 4 o’clock position, precisely aligned with the number 20 on the bezel—a brilliant design to spotlight the 20-year celebration. The limited-edition watch is available in two versions: the Solar Power Chronograph and the Automatic, giving collectors an enticing choice. While the Chronograph Solar Power model had previously launched in striking blue and red dials, this limited-edition blue dial accentuates the brand’s dedication to the sporty Solar Power Chronograph model in the foreseeable future.”
Adding a dash of star power to the event was the dashing actor Mr. Lee Thanat Lowkhunsombat, who shared his heartfelt admiration for Orient watches. “I’ve always had a soft spot for blue, and I love coordinating my outfits with the events I attend. A watch is a vital accessory for me. I lean towards sporty, classic designs because they fit seamlessly with any occasion. Limited-edition watches hold a special place in my heart because they feel so unique. The 20th-anniversary limited edition from Orient, with its sporty dive design and intricate details, is a real gem. It’s a watch that complements any attire and suits every occasion perfectly,” Mr. Lee enthused.
The special limited edition sport dive watches are available in two captivating models: the automatic diver with a stunning blue gradient dial and Arabic numerals spanning from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock, accented by golden hands, encased in stainless steel measuring 41.8mm. This marvel offers water resistance up to 200 meters and boasts an in-house automatic F6922 calibre movement with an impressive 40-hour power reserve. The second model, the Solar Power Chronograph, features an aluminium bezel and six distinct notched positions. The bezel is vividly blue from 0 to 20 minutes and transitions to black for the rest. This solar-powered chronograph includes three subdials for 24-hour, 60-minute, and second time measurements. The luminous 12 o’clock Arabic numeral, echoing the original Orient Diver Design, ensures visibility in low light along with the indices and hands. Only 3,000 units of this 20th anniversary limited edition will be produced globally. In Thailand, the automatic version is limited to 180 pieces, while the Solar Power variant will see just 100 pieces available.
These limited-edition watches offer the perfect blend for individuals who cherish the boundless freedom of the sky and sea, and for collectors who treasure sporty dive design watches that are as practical as they are exquisite. This series brilliantly pays tribute to a timeless maritime legacy.

I bet these limited edition watches will be horribly overpriced. It’s just a marketing gimmick to milk fans.
Not really. Limited editions are always a bit more expensive, but they hold value over time. It’s an investment for true collectors.
Investment? More like a waste of money for something that just tells time. My phone does that for free.
I agree, TommyT. These watches are just vanity items. Who cares about a ‘special’ dial design?
It’s not just about telling time, it’s about craftsmanship and heritage. Phones can’t give you that.
Wow, 20 years already? I’ve had my Orient since 2007 and it’s still going strong. Quality matters!
Same here! Orient really makes durable watches. My Mako has accompanied me on countless dives.
If you’re into watches, sure. But I’d rather buy a smartwatch any day.
The blue gradient dial sounds stunning! I can’t wait to see one in person.
It does sound beautiful. But I hope they don’t overdo it with the gold accents. It can easily go from classy to tacky.
True, Marie. Hopefully, Orient keeps it tasteful. Their past designs have been pretty well-balanced.
This is just an excuse for rich people to show off. Who needs a watch that expensive?
It’s not just rich people. Some are real watch aficionados who appreciate the design and technology.
Still think it’s ridiculous to spend that much on something when cheaper alternatives exist.
3,000 units globally? These will sell out in days. I hope to snag one!
Good luck with that. You’ll probably end up paying double on the resale market.
I know, Paul. But if you’re a true fan, sometimes it’s worth the extra cost.
True, the hunt is part of the fun. Hope you get one!
I love the idea of wearable art. These limited editions are pieces of history you can wear.
I’m excited about the Solar Power Chronograph. Intricate solar tech in a dive watch is impressive.
It is! Solar-powered watches are the future. No more changing batteries.
Only 180 pieces for the automatic in Thailand? That’s going to be a tough grab.
Orient watches have come a long way. Priced right, they offer amazing quality.
Does anyone know the price point for these limited editions?
Last I heard, they’re starting around $500 for the lower model and up to $1000 for the higher-end one.
I was at the event and the watches looked even better in person. Truly mesmerizing!
Does anybody know if these will be available in the U.S. or are they exclusive to Thailand?
They are global. Only certain quantities are limited to each country.
Thanks, Ronald! I’ll keep an eye out at my local dealer.
As a diver, I appreciate the 200 meters water resistance. A lot of so-called ‘dive watches’ can’t handle that.
Limited editions thrive on FOMO. Be careful, folks.
The dolphin symbol on the case back is such a nice touch. It’s details like these that make all the difference.
The event sounded so grand! Kudos to Orient for such a stunning reveal.
These watches will probably be flipping for double their price on eBay in no time.
I feel like these designs are timeless. Orient knows how to maintain quality over years.
I prefer the automatic over the solar version. There’s just something classic about it.
I agree, Chris. Automatics have that vintage charm.
