In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community in Trang province, a 37-year-old man known only as Thavorn was apprehended in connection with appalling crimes against his own niece-in-law. This unsettling series of events reportedly unfolded over nearly a year, with the arrest finally taking place on January 12, following an arrest warrant issued by the Thung Song Provincial Court on January 6. The chilling accusations involve both rape and the abduction of a minor between the ages of 15 and 18 for indecent motives.
The disturbing incidents took place in the serene setting of Moo 5, Suso subdistrict, Palian district, Trang province, tarnishing the tranquility of the area. It all began when the victim, a 17-year-old referred to as A, moved in with her aunt in 2020 to provide some much-needed household assistance and care for her grandmother, who slept soundly in a nearby living room.
However, it was in December of the past year that A’s nightmare commenced. Under the cloak of night, Thavorn allegedly made his initial attempt to assault her while she was asleep. Though her resistance halted his advances, it did not deter him from persisting. By the time March 2024 arrived, the assaults had horrifyingly progressed, culminating in an alleged rape that A endured in anguished silence, too terrified to call for help.
The distressing pattern reportedly continued throughout the following months, with the uncle-in-law launching three to four attacks each month, strategically choosing times when A’s aunt was at the hospital with her grandmother. Desperate to exert control, Thavorn allegedly threatened A into silence, coercing her into keeping these atrocious acts a secret.
As the months dragged on beneath the weight of fear and despair, A finally sought solace in her mother, confiding in her about the ongoing horror. This courageous step led to a police report being filed, ultimately resulting in the issuance of the arrest warrant. The suspect, seemingly gripped by fear of the law’s grasp, fled the immediate area, seeking refuge with friends in Palian district before he was finally caught.
Though denying all accusations during his initial interrogation, Thavorn now faces the daunting prospect of legal proceedings at Thung Song Provincial Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, where justice may finally catch up with him.
In a separate but equally disturbing incident, police have also arrested a Thai drug addict after an assault on his former 80-year-old mother-in-law in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima. The woman, identified as Jai, was discovered sleeping on a mere mat by the roadside—a heartbreaking image of vulnerability after fleeing her home to escape the harassment. The non-profit organization Saimai Survive intervened to rescue her, underscoring the grave circumstances facing some women in society today.
As these cases unravel, they cast a long shadow over the community, stirring conversations surrounding the protection of the vulnerable and the imperative for swift justice.
This is absolutely horrifying! I can’t believe such things happen in small communities like this.
Unfortunately, evil can be found everywhere, even in places you least expect it.
True, I just feel for the victims who were supposed to be in a safe environment.
It’s the betrayal of trust that hurts the most. Family should be a sanctuary.
People like Thavorn need to be locked away forever. Why should society tolerate them?
While it’s easy to think that way, we must ensure due process too. It’s crucial for justice even when emotions run high.
I get it, but sometimes the system fails the victims. It’s really frustrating!
What about the aunt? Didn’t she notice anything? It’s hard to believe she was completely oblivious.
You’d be surprised how often people turn a blind eye either intentionally or unintentionally.
The community needs more resources to prevent these tragedies. Local authorities should prioritize spending on social welfare.
This just shows how our society needs to do better in protecting minors. More awareness and education is necessary.
Education needs to start at home too. Parents and guardians have a part to play.
Imagine being in A’s shoes, living in constant fear. It’s traumatizing and no one should have to endure it.
I agree, but let’s not forget those who helped her finally speak up. They’re heroes too.
What a disgrace this Thavorn character is. I hope justice is served swiftly.
I fear for the other families in the vicinity. This could very well be a warning sign for everyone to be more vigilant.
This makes me so angry! How can someone do this to a family member?
Sometimes it’s about power and control over another person. It’s really sickening.
It’s a sad reality that there’s still a lot of unreported cases. Fear and shame keep victims silent.
I’m curious about the police response time. It took too long in my opinion.
It’s not uncommon for bureaucracy to slow things down. But yes, it deserves scrutiny.
We should hold them accountable to ensure things improve in the future!
Another brave soul, Jai, was saved too. It speaks volumes about the fragility of our elders.
This reflects on the bigger issue of how society treats its most vulnerable, especially women and the elderly.
Absolutely! Change must occur on all societal levels.
It’s not just about policies, though, it’s about changing mindsets.
Thavorn might flee, but truth has a way of catching up, no matter how far you run.
So true. It’s only a matter of time before justice prevails.
We need more community programs to discuss and address instances of domestic abuse and similar crimes.
The legal proceedings will be interesting. Hopefully, it sets an example for would-be offenders.
Let’s hope justice serves as a deterrent. But we need systemic changes too.
