Unveiling its latest contribution to the sustainable urbanisation revolution, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) debuted the “PLUG ME EV” at a dedicated innovation exhibition. Led by Deputy Governor, Jaturong Suriyasasin, MEA showcased its novel EV charging solution, reinforcing its commitment to inventiveness and innovation. The highlight of the exhibition was the showcasing of an ultra-efficient EV Charging Connector, a veritable powerhouse boasting 32 convenient charging outlets. Displayed proudly at the car parking facility of the MEA’s Ploenchit Office, this remarkable innovation is intended to serve the ever-expanding fleet of EV users and contribute significantly to the urban EV ecosystem.
Emphasising the organisation’s commitment to supporting the growth of electric vehicle (EV) usage in MEA-tributary areas, the Deputy Governor said, “Our mission is centred on cultivating a seamless EV ecosystem across regions including Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakarn. We anticipate EV ownership to surge beyond 6.6 million by 2037. The launch of PLUG ME EV stations demonstrates a crucial advancement in expanding charging infrastructure within constrained space settings, such as office complexes, condominiums and alike.”
The PLUG ME EV unit is a paragon of efficiency and capability, managing up to 32 EV chargers (AC type). The cost savings in procurement and installation, alongside communication device expenses, is a staggering 40% compared to prevalent costs. With seamless integration with the MEA EV Application and MEA OSCP, PLUG ME EV balances power demand and matchless charger usability, assuring full charges by the end of the day.
The PLUG ME EV station at the MEA Ploenchit office integrates cross-network services via the EV Roaming application. Full integration is anticipated to be achieved by the close of 2024, following a pilot service phase in 2023.
Having installed the first phase of the PLUG ME EV solution, consisting of a Portable EV Charger supporting 12 parking spaces, MEA’s progressive plan includes add-on support for AC Type 2 Connectors for an extra 18 parking spaces. These connectors have a rated capacity of 7.4 – 44 kW and can be easily activated through the MEA EV Application.
In tandem with MEA’s commitment to a reduced-carbon society, the MEA EV Application features a comprehensive array of services and an extensive network that caters to various user preferences. MEA plans to scale up stations over 600 locations by 2027, occupying not just MEA offices but public spaces as well.
Leveraging its vision, MEA plans to enhance the Charging stations with Solar Cell and battery storage systems, thus boosting power management capability and curbing greenhouse gas emissions. The addition of Home EV Smart Charging and EV charging device testing services augment MEA’s reputation for efficient electricity distribution assurance and unwavering customer confidence.
