Gun Jompalang Aides Domestic Violence Survivor Bua’s Fight for Justice in Samut Sakhon

In the tight-knit town of Samut Sakhon, a story as chilling as it is gut-wrenching has emerged, laying bare the harsh reality some are forced to endure. On July 16, social activist Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet, or as many know him, Gun Jompalang, stood resolute beside a courageous woman named Bua at the Krathum Baen Police Station. Bua, a 32-year-old mother, came seeking justice against the violent tyranny she suffered at the hands of her husband. This was not an average testimony but a harrowing recount of brutality that has left Bua marked, both physically and emotionally.

Bua’s injuries speak volumes: horrific facial burns caused by a hot iron, signs of relentless beatings, and the scars of physical restraint. The ordeal didn’t end there, as she was also subjected to a horrid level of abuse, underscoring a terrifying saga of domestic violence. It was after her daring escape through a window that she reached out to Gun Jompalang for help — a desperate call amidst chaos.

Despite being married for nine years with two young sons, aged six and seven, the couple’s relationship had deteriorated into separation, though the legal ties of marriage lingered. Gun Jompalang revealed staggering claims about Bua’s husband’s alleged boasts, suggesting the presumable impunity he enjoyed due to his father’s supposed connections with local law enforcement. Yet, Police Colonel So Suetrongpanit, the superintendent of Krathum Baen Police Station, firmly dismissed any such connections.

The timeline of events paints a grim picture: Bua encountered the assault on a seemingly ordinary day, June 12, during a visit meant only to pick up her children. Instead, it unfolded into a two-day nightmare of captivity and abuse before she could escape and report the incident on June 14. This marked the fourth assault this year alone, with each occurrence more severe than the last. Burn scars and untreated wounds now serve as stark reminders of her ordeal, as she bravely undergoes treatment over twenty days on.

The sinister depth of her husband’s cruelty emerged as he resorted to threats, urging Bua to retract her complaint, heightening her fears for personal safety. Meanwhile, the police assert their dedication by stating that the case is being meticulously processed, with the suspect having been questioned, although not yet apprehended.

Seeking refuge, Bua found solace in the support from Samut Sakhon’s Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development, who tirelessly offer psychological assistance and safe accommodations. Gun Jompalang remains a steadfast ally, describing the violence Bua endured as “barbaric” and actively pursuing justice for her. He assisted in securing her employment in a factory discreetly, ensuring the details remain confidential to protect her identity.

Gathering medical evidence and eyewitness accounts remains the police’s priority, as they move toward formally charging the suspect. Bua’s story is a testament to endurance, a sobering reminder of the societal issues that demand attention and action. Until justice is served, Gun Jompalang and the community are united, hopeful their combined efforts will pave the way for Bua’s healing and others like her, caught in similar maelstroms of violence.

This is horrific. Bua’s story is a stark reminder of the realities many women face in domestic violence situations. We need more people like Gun Jompalang to step up and support survivors.

    • Mark D July 17, 2025

Absolutely, Amy. What Gun Jompalang is doing is remarkable. More attention needs to be drawn to these issues, especially when local authorities are allegedly compromised.

      • Samantha89 July 17, 2025

I agree, but what about the police? Why is the suspect not yet arrested? It’s infuriating!

    • TruthSpeaker July 17, 2025

It’s easy to blame the police, but without solid evidence, their hands can be tied. Let’s focus on supporting the survivors more than criticizing.

Why isn’t the legal system more effective in protecting women? We hear these stories too often, and it’s terrifying.

    • Nina T. July 17, 2025

It’s because the system is flawed. There are still cultural and systemic barriers that need to be overcome. Legal reform is essential.

  3. Kenny July 17, 2025

The husband’s supposed connections with law enforcement make this a bigger issue of corruption. It’s insane that this still happens in 2023.

    • Linda G July 17, 2025

Corruption isn’t a new problem, unfortunately. It’s deeply ingrained in some places and hard to root out without systemic change.

    • Amy_L July 17, 2025

True, Linda. Challenging such a system requires continued advocacy, just like what Gun is doing. He’s setting an example.

It’s heartening to know that Bua is receiving psychological support and safety. This should be the norm for all survivors.

    • Shane V. July 17, 2025

Completely agree. The psychological aspect of abuse is often overlooked, but it’s crucial for healing. More resources need to be allocated for mental health care.

  5. Martin July 17, 2025

I think these stories scare people away from filing complaints. Who wants to face retaliation or feel unsupported by the police?

    • Reason815 July 17, 2025

That’s a sad reality, Martin. Building trust with authorities and having fast-track support systems can reduce these fears.

  6. GrowthMindset July 17, 2025

Bua’s bravery is astounding. We need to create a society where victims feel empowered to speak up without fear.

    • Sarah R July 17, 2025

Empowerment is key, but it takes more than just societal change. Education from a young age about healthy relationships is vital too.

  7. Marco July 17, 2025

How does someone like Bua’s husband gain such a sense of impunity? It’s time for serious consequences.

    • Kelly_89 July 17, 2025

I think impunity comes from the belief that connections can help escape accountability. We need transparency in these cases.

    • Amy_L July 17, 2025

For sure, Kelly. Public outcry and media attention can sometimes force hands and bring justice.

  8. Student101 July 17, 2025

Why did it take so many assaults before action was taken? Shouldn’t there be a quicker response after the first report?

  9. Zara Q July 17, 2025

Bua’s resilience is inspirational. I hope her story encourages other survivors to seek help.

    • FriendofBua July 17, 2025

She’s truly strong for going through all of that and still fighting for her and her children.

  10. JonnyBravo July 17, 2025

With stories like these, it’s clear there need to be more shelters for women in crisis situations. It’s shameful how often they have nowhere to turn.

  11. Marissa L July 17, 2025

I genuinely hope Bua gets justice. No one should live in fear and face such atrocities in their own home.

  12. SkaterBoy July 17, 2025

Good on Gun Jompalang for being there for Bua. It’s important for men to stand up and be allies in domestic violence cases.
